I have read in several locations that the "S" tractors were stripped down or economy tractors and that it was a cost cutting issue. To the best of your knowledge, exactly what are the major differences in the 6610 and the 6610S tractor? thanks

They were built by seemingly unskilled and untrained labor using parts made with worn out tooling and assembled without concern for protecting wiring and hydraulic lines from early failure due to abrasion. Some of the parts used are specific to 'S' series tractors and difficult to obtain. We had a 7610S that had a Dual Power leak. It contained parts that were not cataloged, and had to be matched by dimension. But they are simple and cheap, lacking some features that were standatd on the 'real' 10 series. The engines are current for the period the tractor was built (due to EPA regs) and generally are exempt from the problems the rest of the machine can be subject to. Theswe comments do not apply to the 3010S which is a total POS and should be avoided at all costs.

Maybe I'm wrong but I think these tractors were built in South America. Seems to me the chassis was similar to 56-7740. It's been a while since I have heard mention of these tractors. They were not around very long.
