Ok so i went up to camp the other day to go up and look at a couple skid loaders and well it wasnt as big as i wanted. then i saw a tractor with a sale sign on so you know of course i gotta look. lol and the one guy has a

1966 Ford 4000 Diesel for sale also.
It has the selecto speed transmission I dont know much about them.

It has 3200 hrs on it.

I was thinking about getting it and taking a couple parts off it and store them so that i could use in the future on my 3910 if something happened to mine.

Then the rest i didnt need i would part the rest of the tractor out or maybe fix it up?

When i looked at it it will need all new electrical wiring. other than that just little things.
The rad is still good the fire didnt even burn the hoses and it still has water in it.
engine does turn over by hand.

Ok so whats it worth the guy is asking 2,000. Im thinking of calling him and seeing if he would take 1000 for it. Does it sound good or should i save the money.

I wouldn't touch it.

Figure out what it would worth as scrap metal and offer them 2/3 of that.
If you are planning on fixing it and selling it, you will have a HARD time finding someone willing to take a chance on a machine what has been burned.
If you go to tractorhouse they list the current average "quick sale" auction prices as $3266, and the current average asking or "retail" prices as $5514.
As such, in good running order (without having been burned) it would probably be worth between $4000 and $5000. As a burned and repaired tractor I would not expect to see more than $2000-$3000 for it

I agree 1000 dollars sounds fair. Make the offer -the person does not have to take it, and if you get it fine. Used tires have become very pricey as they reflect the cost of new rubber. Reselling parts can be a pain if you are not used to doing so. If properly listed the internet can make the tractor parts go away quickly.

I would not touch a select-a speed, if it was running great. Ken Sweet

wow.. a burned SOS..

that's exactly what I would do with one.. :)

IF the engine is good and it could be made to run using a temp fuel tank and a jump.. and then after running.. it moved in all gears... I might offer 1000 - 1500$

2x

The transmission is your wild card. The engine should be fine if it did not get hot enough to burn the hoses and radiator.

What is scrap going for a ton and what will this tractor weigh?

I agree with a couple of the other posters below and would probably pay around $1000 for it.

To me it looks like a simple repair and I am certainly not afraid of Select-O-Speed models.

Anyone who has been inside a conventional automotive automatic transmission will have no difficulty with anything found inside a SOS transmission, and the late model versions such as this are absolutely bullet proof.

sos , even the late models are anything but bullet proof. an 8speed crash box is bullet proof.

and the sos trans is NOT an auto matic tranny.. it's a powershift gear trans. no torque converter.
