Hello ,Everyone I have a 655 tractor with a bucket and a back hoe. I pulled it me work shop and took of the york rake and put the backhoe on and it will not restart. Check for fuel ,bleed lines pump and injecter. Does not have much fuel at injectors turning over by key but has fuel. Checked fuel filters and air filters, OK Check to see if fuel shutoff was working or needed adjusting. Checked the valves and they where not tight and adjust was OK. looked for fuel leakes but could not find any. The shop is 65 deg all the time. Pulled oil cap to see in if pump gear may have broken but it looks OK injector pump is turning. It trys to run on the key when it is rolling over but will not take off and run. Fuel shut off is working the way the tech manual said it should. Does any one know or have had a problem with the plunger in the pump sticking. That is what I think may be the problem. This unit sat alot before I got it last fall and I now use it regularly. I like the unit It was a friend of mine's father and he pasted away about 8 yrs ago and the last foundation he did before his death was the shop that it is sitting in. Finished it on a friday and past away on sunday that week. So fixing it is not a cost issue, I just want to keep it cause I think of Larry everytime I start the thing. Thank you for any help. I just don"t like the idear of the dealer having at it. Chris Putzier

Did you check your fuses? I had a similar problem with my 790 early in it's life and it turned out to be a fuse. I can't remember what the fuse protected, but it kept it from starting. You might also check all of your safety switches.

And welcome to TBN!

I did look at the fuses and the switches, PTO and seat safety switch. This whole problem is starting to wind me up a bit and it is just something simple if i can just find it. Thanks for the help. Chris Putzier

It sounds like you do have some fuel at the injectors which is good. Now all you need is heat of compression and some air. Make sure there are no restrictions in the intake. When you crank are you getting white smoke out the exhaust? If so then that is unburnt fuel because there is not enough heat of compression. Are the glow plugs working? If they are not working that may be the problem. I believe that engine is a Yanmar and has 3 glow plugs. If glow plugs are inop and you are positive they are not working you may try a very slight shot of ether but be warned that ether can be very dangerous ESPECIALLY if the glow plugs are working. If you need help troubleshooting glow plugs let us know.

Well I finely had time to get in to it and it has stuck rings in 2 cly all the way around the piston and 1 cly half way around the piston, but the good news the motor looks good inside and I am going to do a minor on the motor. Put it back in service. Thank you everyone for the places to look for problems. Thanks again Chris Putzier

Hi Chris, Glad you got it working again.
I gotta ask, you wrote you
"got it last fall and I now use it regularly"
did you notice any running problems before the no start? any smoking, hard start?

It started a little hard, but it had a bad glow plug then. A childhood freind is the service manager at the JD Dealer. He said he has seen this before that if you idle them a lot. They don't get hot and carbon up. But I had to pry the rings out of the ring grooves when I took it a part. Chris Putzier
