6520 in cold weather is hard to start. Installed new batt. And it still still turns over very slow. Any ideas?

Do you have a block heater? If not consider getting one. Check the ohms of the glowplugs as well. It is very easy to do and easy to swap out.

The 6520 has no glow plugs, only a intake heater. You will have to install a block heater and plug it in. I install block heaters on every 00,20,30, and 60 series tractors I sell. I know it will be needed in my climate.

Where are you located? There is a possibility that your intake heater isnt working. It should come on automatically when you turn the key to the run position. ... or you are using 15W40 oil in the coldcold. I have a 7520 .. almost identical to the 6520. I have no problem using 5W40 and have started reliably in 0F using only the intake heater for about 30 seconds before cranking. It cranks slower but starts quickly. The 6520 engine is slightly larger and with higher compression than the turboed 7520, so its probabl y a little harder to spin. Are you using a 5Wxx oil? If so go to 0W40. John Deere markets a very good one.

Thanks for the help. I have passed the info on to my friend who owns the tractor. He is going to install a block heater. We live in Northeast Oklahoma and just a week ago it was -17 F. We don't see temps like that very often, in fact today My daughter was in shorts. Have to say my 3215 started ok during the cold spell. I always add fuel treatment and have had no issues.

Glad to hear you are installing a block heater. My apologies for not knowing that it had an intake heater instead of glow plugs. ;)

I have noted on very cold days my 6520 tends to turn over slowly, but my battery is over 4 years old. I just jump it off and it spins over fast enough for a good start. I do let the little icon for the intake heater go out before engaging the starter.
hugs, Brandi
