Anyone have an opinion on these? Major differences? Experiences? Thanks.

Looking at the specs, they all have the same 276ci engine. The 6403 is a larger framed tractor compared to the 5000 series. The 6403 is the base model of the 6000 series. The 5525 is a better equipped tractor than the 5603, which is a base model of the 5000 series. Just depends on what you want to do with the tractor. The 5000 series are more compact and should weigh less than the 6000 series.
The 6400 I have has been a real good tractor. There were not the variety of models available when I bought it in '96. The 6430 would be the equivalent to it now.

EKUgrad, this about sums it up. As he said, the 5000 series is a smaller, lighter tractor than the 6000 series. The 03's (6403 & 5603) are the economy series tractors. The 25 has more luxuries. For luxuries in the 6000 series, you could try the 6420 or the newest 6430.
Be careful with the numbers. I think JD's site list the 5525 as 95 hp and the 6420 as 90 hp. The 5525 is rating engine power and the 6420 is listing PTO power.

6420 is no longer in production...

The 6403 is a super stripped down economy/utility tractor with a standard 9x3 transmission and the oldest cab of the three. The 5525/5603 bascially share the same "guts" but the sheetmetal is different and the main difference between the two is the cab, with the 5525 obviously being the nicer of the two. But bot the 5603 & 5525 have the PowerReverser transmission in them. Again, just depends on what you are looking to do with the machine and how large of a machine you need.

Thanks -- that is about what I came up with as well. It will be used for bush hogging, loader work, and general around the farm work. It needs to be big enough to have a buddy seat in the cab for the times that I have my little helper with me. Probably won't be seeing much row crop action until I can get my hands on a better piece of land, but hopefully eventually.

I would forget about the 6403 and drive both the 5603 & 5525/5625 and see what you think...for your use I believe the 5603 might be the best fit and it will be easier on the wallett too!

EKUgrad I bought a 5603 in Nov. 07 and I only have 40 hrs on it. I have to say it is an awesome machine. I chose it over several different brands and I shopped what seemed like forever. I have used it for bushhogging and clearing trees to loading big round bales. I plan to bale in the summer. The standard euipment on the tractor sold me. The only options I got were 2nd rear valve, loaded rear tires and a radio. GOOD LUCK

I have had my 5525 cab for almost 3 years - I love it.

THe 5603 is nice tractor with what looks like the same cab as the 5525. There is room for a training seat - I have one in mine. If you are going to have a pretty big 2nd person in there - you might want a larger frame tractor.

The 5525 is 75HP PTO.

The 6403 is pretty stripped down, but a lot of people use them all the time.

I would go drive them all. The gadgets on the 25s are pretty slick. I love the 3rd valve on the FEL for one.

Another option would be the 85 PTO HP 6415.

6415 isn't in production anymore and you will be hard pressed to find any left on dealers lots..
