Good morning all. I am wondering if anyone has any tricks for locking the blades for removal. I don't have a stand or pneumatic gun. I will be laying on the floor with the deck installed.

Make a stand with wood, cement blocks etc to raise the front. Use a piece of 4x4 and find a spot where it will jam the blade from turning.

If you want to do this with the deck on, you will want to raise the front end, preferably with jack stands. I think a 2x4 will probably work to jam the blade. However, since it's a drive over deck, it's a lot easier to take the deck off, make some stands (several threads on this) to put it vertical and work on it that way. I can hold the blade by hand and loosen it with a long breaker bar. Besides blade removal, the stands make it much easier to clean the deck and to grease it.

Thank you for the input. Long bar, block it up and jam in a piece of wood. I had hoped there might be a way to secure the pulleys, or a place to install a rod through the top of the deck to limit the travel of the blades. I may pursue the stand, just not positive on how to safely transition the deck from horizontal to vertical. The garage I am using has no more than an 8ft ceiling height so I am concerned about using the FEL and chains. Guess I could use a block and tackle.

Back and knees just not what they used to be. Thank you again for the suggestions.

I have not checked but 8 feet might be enough to use the loader. I think I have moved mine through an 8 foot door hanging from the loader.

A short 4x4 always works for me. I never tried anything else except an air wrench.

I used to use floor jack to jack up the front then wedge a piece of wood to block the blade when using a socket wrench to loosen and tighten while lying on the floor, NO MORE. A cheap $20 impact from Walmart, Harbor Freight, Northern Tool, etc will loosen and tighten these bolts sufficiently. I just chain the front axle and use my FEL outside my shop to raise the mowers up at least 45 degrees and zip off the blades with air impact. If you keep a spare set of blades, the exchange can be done in about 5 minutes, off with the old dull blade and on with the new sharp blade in less than a minute each. Takes longer for me to get down and in position than to take them off. One can hold the blade by hand (gloves on for safety) easily when using an impact. Well worth the price. I haven't used the electric models but I would think that if you don't have a compressor (how do you get by without one) an electric impact would work also.

Thanks Gary. Clearance and impact wrench good. Forgotten how sweet that tool can be. And of course a good pair of gloves. Tools good!!!

Just put my deck back on this morning. (I have 2320 with 200cx loader). The way I chained it up today, the deck was completely off the floor with enough room to take the stands off and put the wheels on with the top of the loader 7 feet off the floor. Not sure which tractor you have but the 8 foot ceiling should be OK.
