6000 4wd. Purchased Paynes forks recently to aid in moving lumber bundles during fence construction over last month. Last weekend, I went to move the last bundle of pickets, and the bucket under the load, would not roll back all the way, and the lift seemed weaker. Have I damaged the hydraulics in some way. Suggestions? Pump, filter? I have seen some posts referring to a screen that may need cleaning. Where is this screen located? Is the power steering pump adjoined/in tandem with the hydraulic pump? I have not had time to investigate all this, but thought I might get some help that might save some time from you folks. Thanks

I doubt there's anything wrong at all. When you put forks on a tractor's bucket, and the load you're trying to lift is that far past the bucket's pivot pins, your lifting (and curling) capacity is GREATLY reduced. Just for comparison, the load you can lift IN the bucket is about 70-80% of the load you're rated to lift at the pivot pins. with forks, it's probably only 70-80% of that!

Was the last bundle of lumber heavier than the rest, (even by a little bit)? If you were on the borderline of being able to lift the bundles, a matter of just a few pounds extra may put your hydraulics into "relief."

The earlier post is certainly correct about the ergonomics of forks added to loader bucket. On the Mahindra 6000 the power steering system is totally separate from the hydraulics. The hydraulic screen is on the suction line as it exits the hydraulic housing (near your right ankle if in the seat of the tractor). Two hose clamps and one retaining bolt and it slides out of the housing. Much less messy if you drain the hyd oil first. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys. The last load of lumber was the same size as the rest. Treated lumber. Maybe more moisture, but it did not seem so. It lifted the other bundles with ease. I have had the tractor parked in my yard, but took it back to work today where I normally keep it on concrete. I left it parked on the concrete for a few hours, and when I came back there was a small puddle of oil below where the hyd. filter is. There is some oil on the hoses, so I suspect I have lost some fluid and I might be sucking air into the system?

Anyway, when I get a chance, I am going to check the connections.

The loader seems to work fine with out the lumber on it. I hauled a load of rocks this morning and no problem. The tractor only has ~270 hrs on it, so I would have been suprised if the pump was already going out. Thanks for your help. If there are any other suggestions, let me know.

No problem with weakness on the 6000 loader I have. If anything I'd say it will lift too much. Can't count the times mine has yanked one or both back wheels off the ground and in turn caused me to pinch a piece of foam from the seat. These things are a bear. I suspect you have a relief setting wrong or something.
