60\" tiller JD 4110

Hi folks, I just did a search for tillers but didn't see anyone running a 60" behind a 4110. I'm thinking of buying a KK but wonder if I have enough tractor to handle it. Thanks for any comments.

I run a 64" sovema tiller (rated for 75 hp) behind my 3320, that's for sure all it wants, but it definitely gets the job done.

Hello,

I also run a 60" Buhler Farm King tiller with my 4110 and it's been running fine for 3 seasons now.
If you get a slip clutch with your tiller, make sure it's ajusted properly and not rusted! Like others have said here before, don't ask how I found out about this! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

The Frontier 1160 actually says minimum tractor HP is 15-30.. so you should be ok. I think it will run fine.. just be aware of what's goin on, don't try to take too deep right away,, normal stuff.

I'll have to buy a slip clutch for the KK it comes with a shear pin,I think. This tiller seems to be built well for the price.its the only brand I've seen on a local lot. They also have a 48" but it's chain drive which I've been told to stay away from. I guess my concern about the bigger tiller is more about control than horse power. Does it seem to jerk the tractor around? Do you use front end weights with it?

I don't use front end weights with mine, the tractors are similar. The tracotrs have plenty of weight to handle it, my only experience is in heavy ground it puts a real load on the power, always gets it done though.

I'm not using any front weights with my tiller. The front of the tractor seems to be light though when the tiller is hanging of the back. One problem I had, was that I had a hard time operating the latch on my 410 loader (to detach) when the tiller is lifted up on the 3PH. Lifting the front of the tractor by curling the bucket just didn't apply enough pressure to operate the latch easily. The solution was to lower the tiller to the ground before opertating the latch.

60" is a quite large, at least from what I was used to! I'm planning on making my garden bigger to let me manuver the tractor with the tiller a little bit easier. I need to clear some junk before doing this!

My tiller is chain driven if I'm not mistaken. (There's something in the manual about tightning the chain that's why I'm saying this.) Anyways never had problem with it and even stalled the tractor 3 times because of a rock caught between a tine and the tiller. At that point I found out that my slip clutch was rusted! Had to open it up and clean it.

FWIW--I run a 50 inch behind my 4010 (the model just below the 4110). HP has never been an issue (even when breaking ground for the first time). I do however use 3 suitcase weights on the front. Mainly I do this to help with traction in my neighbors garden. I also have turf tires which may be the reason I need/prefer the weights.

The 50 inch covers my tracks, but not by much.

So--I would think the 60 would work very well behind the 4110.

48" tiller covers my tracks on a 4100 with R4's just so you know....slip clutch with chain drive - I wouldnt worry about chain driven tillers -they last a long time...I know I'm not /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
