I replaced the blades with new ones on my deck, now I have streaking between the 3 blades. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif What do you think it is?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifIf the blades are not in the same pattern when they turn will this do it? If so, what is the best way to get them to alien as in the manual? Loosen the bolt and move and then retighten or take the belt off and move the blade? I welcome your suggestions, got a lot of grass to cut /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks in advance for your help..

Do you mean lines of uncut grass? Are the new blades the same length as the old ones? Does your deck have a buildup of grass under it?

I don't believe the blades would remain oriented in the position for very long due to minor differences in the belts and pulleys.

Both of my RFM's seem to perform differently at times, and I've attributed some of it to variations in the grass, affected by moisture or season..........................chim

Is it possible to install one or more upside down? I don't know as mine is new and I haven't had to take any off yet, but I did install one upside down on my old Cub 1811 once when I was in a hurry and it didn't cut for dang!

Was belt off? could that have been installed somehow rotating something in the wrong direction?

Tom; I think it would be easiest just to loosen the blades and align them, as per the manual. Check to see how much coverage you get as they rotate. I would also make sure that you got the right blades from the dealer, stranger things have been known to happen /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The blades do not have any alignment or orientation in regards to position relative to one another. They are either the wrong size or upside down, provided of course that the deck has been reinstalled correctly.

Check your manual on that one. I just replaced the blades on my B7500's 60" deck and the blades are supposed to be in a certain alignment. The manual also says that periodically they should be repositioned back to that orientation. Now, why there would be a specific orientation on a belt drive system is beyond me and I doubt that no matter how they are positioned would have anything to do with striping. When I read this, the first thing that occurred to me was that it was more for balance than anything else......but I may be wrong.

That said, I also inadvertantly installed one of my blades upside down and it does a lousy job of mowing when you do something dumb like that! Fortunately, it was the one by the chute and I managed to switch it without having to remove the deck.

OK I thought when I took the old ones off I put the new ones in the same direction, BUT now I am thinking maybe I messed up. Sooooooooo what is the correct orientation for the blades?? Can anyone look under the 60MM deck and let me know? Or direct me to where to look, the manual does not help. I would hate to do all that work and then have to put them in the correct orientation again.

Thanks

Check your mower manual, not the tractor manual. I don't know if the orientation matters, but Kubota recommends a certain pattern.

I don't have a BX, but here are some common problems.

It's common to have a center blade that's a little longer than the outside blades. So, check to be sure the new blades are the same length as the old ones. You don't need a caliper here, just lay them side by side and eyeball them.

I've occasionally seen new blades that were really dull. That would do it too.

Most blades have a tab at the trailing edge that's bent up. Make sure the tab is up, (or down if you flipped the deck over to work on it /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif ).

Don't worry about the rotational allignment. If that were important, they would use gears or toothed belts to keep them alligned.

On the other hand, if the grass is wet, you can get problems no matter what you do.

Happy mowing!

If the blade is in upside down The back edge of the blade will be doing the cutting. The end tab, which should be pointing up is pointing down and due to it's angle will not cut.

Chances are the rest of the cutting isn't that smooth either.
