Quality Farm & Fleet has 10% off all purchases the next three days. Therefore, I can purchase a King Kutter 60" Tiller for $979 less 10%....which is a geat deal. However, after reading extensively in this site I get the impression a 60" tiller may be too much for a B2150 HSD 4x4 with only 18HP at the PTO.
What do you guys think?
My soil is very light and sandy (I live not far from Lake Michigan) in Allegan County (Michigan). Thanks for the help.

The owners manual lists the max implement weight at 550lbs and the max weight at the link at around 800lbs. The weight of the King Kutter is around 690lbs. Will I slowly destroy the hydraulic lift system for the 3pt?

I was a little afraid of the 60" KK tiller for my 2710 which has 20 PTO HP. But I decided it would be fine for it. The weight of the implement is fine for the 2710, so I had decided to go for it. Then I decided to get a tandem disk instead. Unfortunately the smaller model is more expensive and is a special order item.

I would consider a 700 lbs tiller to heavy for the 2150. My tiller weighs 600 lbs. I always have FEL on my 2910 when using it. Kubota recommends there 50" tillers for you tractor.

Tough question. That'll definitely be pushing the limits, but may be OK in the soil you describe. I think I'd be a little reluctant to buy that unless I had a chance to try one out first.

Ron,
You are right. I think your 600lb tiller is exceeding the specs of you tractor also.....I believe the 2710 is rated for a max implement weight of 550lbs?
I'm still thinking of going for it anyway....I like the idea of saving over $700. I think the tractor can handle the weight and I can always remove 1 set of tines.

Well, I got me a 60" King Kutter for less than $900, just rassled it off my snowmobile trailer. What a heavy, well constructed tiller! Hooked it up to the 'bota and started it up. The hydraulics lifted it up with ease. After I finish lunch, I'll hookup the shaft, add oil/grease, and give it a try. I'll let you know how it performs.

Bubba,
I think in your soil you should have no problems with that tiller. I think the way that Kubota rates the 3pt. lifting capacity is odd. They rate it at over 1000 lbs. and then say the implements can't weight more than 500 lbs. but a backhoe can weigh 800lbs. Makes no sense to me.

Well, got the tiller assembled & lubed and took it our for a trial run. It worked great with the little B2150. I tilled my garden which has 5 inches of leaves and horse manure spread over the top, it didn't make the engine lug at all, could hardly tell it was there.
So, I gave it something a little more challenging......heavy sod that hasn't been farmed in 50 years (maybe longer). It jerked and shook but still the engine speed was unchanged.
I definitely made the right choice and saved $700 over a Landpride or Befco.....plus it covers the entire tractor tracks and then some!
If you have alot of sandy loam like I do, the 60" King Kutter will do a super job and not beat the hell out of your wallet or smallish tractor. The 4 wheel drive and low range are a must with the turf tires.
Happy Tillen' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Frank,
Normally we would have 1-2 feet of snow on the ground by now like this time last year. November was the second warmest on record here in southwestern Michigan. You must live in Northern Minn?
Its 55 degrees today!!! We are going to pay dearly very soon!
