I know the general idea is a 48inch or so unit is the best match for the tractor. But is a 60 really just too big?

Its pretty thick clay type soil up here with plenty of rocks. As far as breaking up sod I would probably use my box blade or middle buster first.
I do a lot of replanting the same areas of grass year after year due to winter damage with the tractor and horses. was looking for something to help this out. I usually till up the ruts and damaged areas and then rake smooth and replant.
I have a tiller but if I were doing the task you mention here I would use my boxblade and then my RatchetRake. The BB will bust it up and keep it somewhat level and the RatchetRake will smooth it out to "throw the grass seed on it" point and then drive over it to press the seed in. Lot cheaper than a tiller. Its pretty thick clay type soil up here with plenty of rocks. As far as breaking up sod I would probably use my box blade or middle buster first.
