6\' scraper blade cheap...maybe a pulverizer too...

Local landscaping supply company had it sitting near the mulch bin rusting. I asked about it, and the owner called me to see how much I'd give him. We agreed on $100. It's got some rust, the pins are bent and need to be replaced, and it needs the bolts that lock it into a certain angle, but it looks to be quite heavy-duty (he says it's an old Rhino brand). I haven't picked it up yet...have dirt on the trailer, but I'll try to go get it later this week.

I think this is a good deal...thoughts? I see that some of the lighter duty blades are $200-250, so I'm thinking this is probably a pretty good deal. Cheap, which is in line with it's expected occasional use leveling some areas after fresh dirt and scraping the occasional snow that we have. It looks pretty heavy, so it might make quite good ballast for FEL work, unless it's physical size gets in the way.

This place also has a 6' pulverizer lying there (or at least I think that's what it's called). Looks kind of like a box blade with a roller with spikes attached to the back. I might be able to talk him out of both for a little more (he doesn't seem to have any 3pt tractors around anymore). How useful would this pulverizer be? Would it cover the occasion need for a box blade? Thoughts?

Thx,
Dave

Re: 6\' scraper blade cheap...maybe a pulverizer too...

I'd have to guess that BB must weigh 500+# ... hard to get much steel for $0.20/lb these days /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I have use for a pulverizer cuz when I scarify prior to grading, in my heavy clay, sometimes I get giant chunks instead of small, manageable, clods so I have to run over them with my Ramcharger before I can do any real grading. I don't think pulverizers are cheap either so I'd sure try to get both ... I'm sure you could get your money back if you don't find a neew for them.

The 6' blade is a scraper blade (like a snow blade) rather than a box blade, but I still think $100 is a good price, even though it needs some patching up. I'll take a better look at the pulverizer when I go pick up the scraper.

Oh, ok, I'm with you, I think the back blade is still a great price ... in Dec '04 I paid $400 for a Bush Hog 5' BB and it weighs 280#. Still a good price per #. I think the pulverizer can be used as a plug aerator or at least something to poke seed into the ground after tilling/seeding ... but what do I know ... I just like implements that cost $100 or less /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: 6\' scraper blade cheap...maybe a pulverizer too...

I have a brand new Woods 6' scrape blade I'll sell cheap.... Oh, I guess I should tell you that I hung it on a stump and bent the main tube & knuckle. I think I just destroyed a $ 700.00 scrape blade with only 1 hour of use.

Go for the $ 100.00 deal that way when you catch a stump it will only be a $ 100.00 whoops....

Hey Charles,
Can you post a picture of your bent blade, maybe someone will have a suggestion for a fix?

Re: 6\' scraper blade cheap...maybe a pulverizer too...

Alright...I went and picked this up today. Got it home and hooked it up to the tractor to unload it from the trailer. What an ordeal! Now I see why folks buy quick-hitch type gadgets /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Anyway, it needs 3-4 bolts, a couple pins, and maybe some paint to ****** rust. It's a little bent, and has one crack around a bolt hole. But hey, for $100, I think I'll get some occasional use out of it and it'll probably live longer than I'd ever need it to. Cool. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I took a better look at the pulverizer. I'm now sure that I'd find it all that useful. A couple or three years ago, yes...now, probably not.
