Ok guys I have a chance to get a Ford 951 Special 6' brush hog, but will my TC40 run it or is it too much for my tractor? I would be doing fields just around my property.

Thanks for any input.

I think that cutter will be perfect for your tractor. You should have plenty of power even for a 7' cutter, but a 6' cutter should be a dream. Just go easy on the PTO clutch. Lower your rpm to 1000 and feather the lever slowly until the clutch engages, then fully engage the lever. When you want to stop the cutter, lower the rpm again to 1000 and so that the cutter slows also and then disengage the PTO lever. This will greatly reduce the wear an tear on your PTO clutch/brake and make it last a really long time. My TC45D is 12 years old and 1900 hours. The PTO clutch works like it was new.

If you already knew this, ignore my instructions. I just think it is important enough to mention over and over.:)

I have a 6' rotary mower for my TC40D; works great, even in really thick field/pasture grass. The going rule of thumb is 5hp/ft; you meet that easy.

I also do as Jim mentions; be gentle engaging/disengaging the PTO. It is easier on the equipment and the tractor.

I just looked at my mower; that is the one I have! Ford 951B.

My TC40D runs it really well.

Well I'm trading for it, so I should have it this weekend! Until then I'm making a 6' snow plow fit my FEL, almost done and it only cost me 4 cans of paint from Walmart! I'll post picks when I get it done. Thanks again for all input- I'd rather have you experiences than my dumb luck!

I used a Bush Hog SQ172 6' on my TC40DA with no problems until I got my Boomer 8N.
