Ford 1710
I recently purchased a Ford 1710 MFWD tractor. The manual calls for 6.00x16 ag tires for the front axle. I noticed last night that it has 7.00x16 ag tires on it. What sort of problems could I have with this size tire on it?

Thanks,
Lutzy

All sorts of binding issues. The bigger tires will over stress the front end as well. BKT makes a nice 6:00X16 R-1 tire. I put them on my 1710. Make sure you air them to the max, and get at least 6 ply. 8 would be better. I suspect, the prior owner put on the 7" wides after getting frustrated with how much the 6" wides sag with a full bucket.

If both the tires have the same rolling circumference then it's ok to use the 7x16 tire. I took the 27x8.50x15's off of my 4410 and installed 26x12x12's. You can buy 26 inch tires that are as tall as 27's. You just need a good tire shop that's willing to work with you. If the 6x16 and the 7x16 look to be close to the same height you shouldn't have a problem.

That makes perfect sense since it is MFWD. Any idea where I can find data on rolling circumference of the tires? I can easily measure it for the existing 7.00x16 tire, but have no idea what it would be for the 6.00x16. In an earlier thread, someone mentioned that the front tire should lead the rear by 1-3%.

Math D X pi

Looking at the WWW I see those tires as having a diameter of about 29 inches.

I'll leave the rest to you

I'm finding 7-16 tires with a factory diameter within 1% of a 6-16. Given wear and tire pressure, I'd call them equal

Yeah, the math was the easy part. It was finding dimensions of the 6.00x16s I was havimg a problem with. Thanks.

RockKnocker...

I finally found some (maybe) useful information... A Regency 6.00-16 R1 tire has an OD of 29 inches. The 7-16 Carlisles I have are listed as 29.2 inches OD. The difference in circumference is 0.62 inches. Put another way, the circumference of the Carlisle over the Regency is 0.6% greater. At this point I am going to quit worrying about it.

In the real world of uneven surfaces and forever turning corners you ain't gonna know the difference... If I were running up the highway to my neighbours, then I would shift to 2wd
