I just did my oil in the spring, so I'm good to go for a while, but having recently sold a car, I now realize I have a little stash of premium German synthetic oil (Liqui-Moly) that no longer has a purpose. It is rated for diesel (even the the car was not diesel). However it is 5W-30. I understand this is only at issue in cold weather. What would happen if I run it in the cold? Would it be under lubricated. I do not do any winter work with it, but I do mow in the cold fall days.

Advice? Should I just get rid of it, or should I save it and give it a run in the BX next year.

Run it. Diesel engines are tough as long as it is a "C" rated oil.

I would think you're fine with it at any temperature.
It would be cool if you could post a picture of the label showing the API and ACEA specifications.
The label may not have both ratings.
You will not be under lubricated at any temperature since Kubota"s factory fill is 10W30.

30 represents the oil viscosity when the engine is at operating temperature, controlled by the thermostat unless in really hot temperatures like in the desert. The 5 indicates cold oil viscosity, the viscosity when starting. 40 degree spring day or 90 degree summer day, the engine coolant should keep the engine running where your oil is near the 30 weight high temperature viscosity.

I would stick with 15w40 Rotella or equivalent and use the 5w30 for the cars. Most of your work is in the warm temperature climate and I would suggest that 15w40 is heavier, it is noted to be rated for diesels and is proven for really warm temperatures.

CF is an older spec.. but if your engine will take CF oil, i'd run it. Remember.. you can get syn diesel oils in 5w40 and 10w30.. that means 5 and 30 are both valid.. I'd run it myself if i had the oil. you hav ethe benefits of an energy efficient oil.. good cold pour point, reduced wear at startup.

sounds like a win win.

I run Amsoil Series 3000 5W-30 year-round- also a synthetic. My BX2200, B2410 and BX2660 have never had a problem.

Definitely run it.
