I changed the spring out last fall and the diff lever was still a pain to use. If any dirt got in it then no worky. Then when standing on it to use it the dang tractor would quit because of the seat. Well i had it. I took the lever off underneath the cab and I cut 1/4" off of the length and now it is perfect. So easy to use and it engages with very little effort. It still unlocks with no problem. If you have this problem on your tractor, the lighter spring and shortening up the lever under the seat works great.

Did you find my post from a year or so back? I changed to a ligher spring for diff lock engagement. Parts numbers and directions are all there. Very easy to do and works great. Philip.

I need to do this spring mod. Mine is a real pain to use. How do I access the spring etc? I’ve never really looked into it. I just spent $50 on a diff lock pedal from lownperformance.com. It should help getting a big boot to grip the pedal but the spring mod is def what I’d like to do!

Made these steps to help our tractors diff lock. Welded two piece shaft collars to scrap tubing and clamped to the lever.

My Kubota M6040 has solved most of that problem. I stand up - a buzzer buzzes about 8 or 10 times and then shuts off. Nothing turns off or stops. Lightly step on the diffy lock lever - it will easily engage.

However - I DO LIKE that pedal you made there - Smokeydog.

My wife does most of the finish mowing with the B26 and requires 4wd and occasional diff lock. All the way engaged or foot off. Hard to do given the stout spring, her size and competing terrain. 23 years with the previous B20 the diff lock was getting worn. Similar problem with ergonomics coupled with muddy or wet shoes on the M59. Steps fixed all issues and added some safety comfort. There is a nice tactile thud of the lock disengaging from the added weight of the step.

With R4 tires and HST use the diff lock more than regular farm tractors with R1 tires.
