Has anyone else had a leak in the power steering box? this is the one that the steering wheel attaches to by 3 bolts and has 3 tubes coming out? the valve? is under this on top of frame. The bolts are tight but it has a slow persistent oozing leak that makes a mess and depletes the resovoir.question is? does it have a gasket? or is it "blue goop" gasket? I have tightened as best I can without stripping it. thanks for info!

Remove the dash panel and look at the steering box from the top. There may be a allen head plug in the top of the box that may be loose. I hope this helps.

Thanks Galen, but the culprit is at the 3 bolt pattern plate at the bottom of the steering column . the pump is attached by these 3 bolts. I have wiped down all the area and continue to see seepage from one bolt hole or the seam of the part? Can't really tell as it spreads? I will try some gasket goop and see if the bolt thread is causing the seepage.Found out that the pump is a BIG ticket item so I dont want any problems with it [550$]I talked to a Mahindra CR on the chat line and they didn't have any idea about what I was talking about? Finally said it was beyond his capability to give me an answer? One thing is Mahindra should make available some basic diagrams or parts blow ups[ie. JD!] to help to find problems? would make a valuable aid to those of us who use their product.:confused:o----------I also "consulted" with a parts person at the closest dlr to me and they said the same thing?that they didnt have any microfiches or blow ups of parts? just what was on the manual and it wasnt much?what do they do if they have something major mess up? oh well? its mowing season and I have a down tractor to fix and make a living. Thanks for your input!rac:D

That manifold is held on to the steering motor by the three allen head bolts. Mahindra sells the motor and manifold as a unit but I think there is some orings between them that could be replaced. Make sure those allen bolts are tight before jumping in to far. Hopeful just a turn of a wrench might take care of it. Be careful with that gasket goop if it gets inside the system you could be in big touble.

Good luck

Dave Thanks, I tried tightening the 3 bolts, they are tight! no allen head seen tho? these bolt heads are about 5/8.I am wondering if vibration or the flexing of tractor when mowing is causing the leak?I wish Mahindra had a decent blow up picture of parts so that a person could see what they are getting into? It ain't rocket science?:confused:went and checked today after I sealed the edge and dabbed the blt head with the silicone sealer and as usual---leaking slow and steady. I will have to take this steering column out to see what o rings or other such surprises the mad scientist engineers have sent to us mortals.

ricky1, is this a tractor that is under warranty? If so, I would not mess with it myself.

Sorry Ricky, I was thinking of 20 series steering unit cause thats the only ones I've had any problem with leaks. 5500 is different sounds like the input seal is leaking. Good luck with the repair and maybe next time I will put my brain in gear before my fingers.
