540 or 1000 RPM PTO

Just wondering if anyone, ever runs there BH at 1000 rather than the 540 speed. I tried it today and it work twice as fast (great). just hope its not hurting the pump, heat was a little more.

I'd say be real careful about that. If it's designed to run off a 540 rpm PTO and you run it at 1000 rpm you'll likely harm the pump. Also, you should be careful that you're not overpressuring the system, the relief valve should take care of that but remember that it was sized for a certain flow and you are exceeding that by running the pump faster. You should look at the specs for the system to make sure all the parts will stand running at that speed/flow/pressure.

Running that thing at 1000 rpm is the same thing as using niterous on an automobile.You'll get a lot more power and a lot less life.Use that new found muscle sparingly.

I have used it at 1000 but turn the engine RPM's down to about 1700.

I thought PTO speed was in relation to engine RPM.My DK40 PTO runs at 540 RPM with the engine going at approx 2400 RPM or did I read that great Kioti manual wrong.I didn't know there was a choice of 540 or 1000 RPM>

Some tractors have 2 speed PTO's. They have a selector lever to choose which you want and they are usually rated at the same engine rpm.

Yeah it works twice as fast and will break down at least twice as often, if not very soon. Run all attachments at their rated PTO speed ONLY. Doing otherwise can be damaging to the machinery and dangerous.

I thought the rear pto was 540 in first and the front was rated at engine speed. Did I read it right?

To clarify my post; I have run it in the 1000 position with engine RPM down thus making PTO speed approximately 540 RPM. PTO speed is in direct proportion to engine speed. My first PTO speed is 565RPM at 2540 RPM engine speed.
