540 light problem

I was doing some log skidding this weekend when I noticed my 540 RPM light on. I idled down and it remained on. I engaged both the mid and rear PTO's and the PTO light cameon, the 540 light remained on at idle.

After shuting down I checked for any loose connections under the tractor but didn't see anything obvious. The tractor fired right back up with the light on but later it was off. It came back on, then it went off and I never saw it the rest of the day.

Not with the 540 RPM PTO light, but the glow-plug light was winking at me until I could find the time to diagnose and remove the timer module.

I normally don't pay attention to the 540 light as much as the tachometer anyway. If it were me I would pull out the 540 bulb and just watch the tachometer.

I do rely on the tach more than anything but when I'm chipping, I run the RPM's up until the 600 light flickers then back off a bit. Everything seems to work just fine and after a bath, the light is working properly. I also removed the kickpanels and blew the dust of the relays...I hate these dusty summer days.

How about a second question, any problem with running the chipper at 10% over rated RPM's? I like the way the chips disperse when the RPM's are up but the speed drops on larger material.
