What difference in the 5400's 2.9L engine causes it to take 2.5 qts more of oil than the 2.9L in the 5300? Can the turbo require that much oil? The reason I ask is cause this morning I changed the oil on my 5300. The manual says it takes 6.3 qts of oil. Guess what? Just barely on the dip stick. My first thoughts would be that the 5400 might have a larger oil pan. Nope both models use tyhe same pan, stick, guide etc. Matter of fact the only difference I can find in the two tractors is that the 5400 is turbo charged.

What is yall's advice? After looking at every 2.9L engine spec I could find for the past 20 hrs turns up the same thing. However I just noticed that the maintance pages that the dealer gave me is for the Euro models. On the website they dont have a viewable manual for the US models.
The advice I need is if I should go by the page the dealer gave me and believe the 6.3 qt oil cap, even though its no where near the add line. Or since every US model that I can find that is running the 2.9L is calling for 9 qts. I measured the oil I drained out and it is 9 qts. It was full when I drained it according to the dipstick. My gut is telling me that for some odd reason the euro models must have had a smaller oil pan or something. I believe it needs the other 2.5 qts of oil but I dont want to stress the seals either.

The manual won't necessarily be absolutely correct for absolutely every aspect of your tractor model. There will be variances between the print date of the manual and changes in the particular year-model of the individual machine; for example.

If the dipstick (and you're certain it's OEM - not a replacement dipstick) says the oil level is low..

I'd add oil -- until it reads full.

I'm certain in that in the parts catalog it carries the same part number thats on the dipstick on the machine now. Of course someone could have already put a "new" stick on it. I have already concluded to adding the other 2 1/2 qts.
