5085M Premium Cab XM Radio

Purchased a new 2014 5085M with the premium top line cab. When you go to XM Radio the radio says Check antenna. Well there is only a standard radio antenna on the cab top, No antenna like you normally would see on a vehicle with satt radio. Anybody experience this situation on this series tractor. The owners manual says nothing if this is experienced.

Sounds like you may need to subscribe to a service for the XM Radio, and wondering if you have purchased the service plan to use it??

If you have, then the dealer should know what is needed to get you up and listening.

Absolutely. And to go one step further, just because the radio has a SAT function does not mean that the system is equipped to receive XM radio. Some systems require additional equipment, as in a separate box that plugs into the radio.

If the tractor was set up to receive XM and there is no subscription, they usually will at least receive the 'barker' channel.

Another thing you can try is to set the radio to SAT and tune to channel 0 (zero) if it will let you. That will give you your XM unit ID if it is equipped. With that you can contact XM to subscribe, they can also help you diagnose the system.

If you just purchased the tractor new, I would contact the dealer first to make sure everything you paid for is in place.

Pulled the radio it is all sat ready, but there is NO Antenna connected to the sat input. Guess I will let the dealer tell me why when you buy the top M series with the Premium cab and it has a sat radio but no antenna. kinda like buying updated radials tires but not getting a wheel. I will let you all know what JD says about it.

Sounds like you didn't purchase the XM option. As others have said, just because the radio can handle the XM function does not mean it's activated.

Satellite radio ready just means the radio is capable of recieving signal, assuming you get the appropriate tuner and purchase the service. Factory installed radio on premium M is a bosch. As far as I know sat ready factory installed radios (and the Jensen add ons) have not came with a tuner for many years, and I could be wrong they may never have came with the tuner. Here is how it is stated on the cab description. " The satellite radio-ready feature makes it easy for customers to convert the sound system to any available service." Convert, would probably be the key word here. Now if the dealer gave you the impression that the sat service was connected and already had a tuner, then that is a different story, regardless I am sure you will be on your own regarding the subscription but maybe they can help out via the tuner but I think it may have to come from an outside source unless the Jensen tuner (SWXSV200B) will work. Myself, I am a cheapskate and use one of the portable units so that I only need 1 subscription and can use it anywhere. Good Luck

Yeah, that's how I do it as well. I'm guessing his radio simply has the jack to plug a tuner into. Most tuners you buy come with an antenna kit and a docking station. Then you can add docking stations to any other location you want to move to. I have one in my shop, truck and road grader. Each location has it's own antenna as well.
