Will a 5055d handle a8 to10 ft. bush hog, cut hay with an 8 ft disc mower, and handle 1200 to 1500lbs rolls on both the rear and loader? Also, any comments on these tractors is very welcome.
Thanksd

I'm not sure what your rear implements require for HP, so looking into the manufacturer's requirements for PTO horsepower would be a good place to start. As far as the loader, the 512 will definitely handle the bales, and a spear on the 3 point hitch will lift them also with no problem. Definitely get the 16.9" rear tires and have them loaded. I have the 5045d(essentially the same machine, just tuned to a little more HP) and it's been able to handle everything I've thrown at it. A great tractor in my opinion, and for the money, I'd bet there's not much out there that'll do more work for the cash you're putting into it. As long as you don't mind the fact that Deere builds them in India, I'd take a serious look at it...

Ok. Sounds great! What kind of work do you do with your tractor? What can I expect to give for one with a loader, bucket, bale spear and canopy?a

I move logs, finished firewood and snow, manure, and hay with mine mostly. Among other random things around the homestead. Price is dependent upon dealer, but from what I've seen on here, if you can drop 12-15% or so off MSRP you're doing pretty good. Your dealer will do a build sheet for you which includes the MSRP prices and give you a quote for his price, you can work on them from there...I picked up mine with a 512 loader, 73" bucket with replaceable cutting edge, 48" Pallet forks, hood guard, block heater, 16.9" wide loaded rear tires, and bucket leveler for $22,000. The MSRP was just about $25,500. The deere canopy I'd expect to pay about $1000 or so for. The 3 point bale spear I would pick up a county line brand one at tractor supply...will be MUCH cheaper than Deere. I have the AP12F pallet forks, and there's a spear attachment for that. I'm not sure what the incentives are right now from Deere, but when I bought last year, there was a $1500 implement bonus when you bought 2 implements. So the $1200 forks added to the package gave me a net gain of $300 ;-) If you want the 553 loader, which has the added benefits of more lifting capacity, higher lift height, and quick-attach masts, expect to pay about $1500 more for the loader and $1000 for the joystick controller, as the 512 has the hydraulic controls built in. If you don't need to remove the loader frequently though, the 512 is a very capable loader. One thing to consider...if the tractor is to be stored in a standard 7'x9' garage, you'll either need to order the horizontal exhaust kit($250) or cut your exhaust down. I failed to realize this, and since I'm obsessive about my equipment staying inside while not in use, I was cutting into my exhause hours after it came home. Fine from my standpoint, but definitely freaked the wife out :) Good luck with your decision, and if you have any other questions, ask away...and let everyone know how you make out. WITH PICTURES!!!

Good advice/suggestions so far. I too strongly recommend the 16.9-28 rear tire option and have recently concerted my vertical exhaust to a horizontal exhaust. I bent the vertical on my previous tractor working in the woods. I was able to straighten it but was always worried about doing it agai. If there are not incentives justifying implement purchases or if you don't have to have the Frontier forks, you can cut the pallet fork price almost in half by going through palletforks.com. That is what I have done and have been satisfied. Compared them closely to the Frontier and not sure there is any obvious difference or benefit to paying more for the Frontier brand.

Deere 5105,
Is that what you have, a 5055D? If so, what do you use it for?

No. I had a 2WD 5105 with a 512 FEL. I now have a 4WD 5303 with a 522 FEL. My primary use would be mowing with a MX6 cutter, planting food plots, pulling a 8' disc harrow, planting small garden and other basic property maintenance items.

So far I have been very satisfied and have found that it does everything I need it to.
