Does anyone have John Deere 5045E and has done some plowing with it. I have to work up some ground that has not been used for several years and was pretty grown over. I have pulled out most of the trees and brush hogged down all the weeds. I now need to work up the ground. I have a 6' PTO tiller but think I will need to plow this ground first. The only plow I have is for an AC and will not work on 3 point so i need to find a 3 point plow. Do I get a 2 or 3 bottom plow for the 5045E? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dennis

I would suggest that you look around for either one, whatever you can find that's reasonably priced.
Look for a plow with coulters and a tail wheel (aka: gauge wheel). That makes it pull easier. Something like this: http://www.tractorhouse.com/listingsdetail/detail.aspx?OHID=7237153
I have a 2 bottom that I can pull with my 34 hp Ford. I would think that you could pull either one.

Really depends on the bottoms. You could pull at 3 furrow with 14" bottom's but not 20". The width of the furrow needs to be considered as well as the number of furrows. Wider ploughs usually do a better job in sod.

Is your tractor FWA? If so and your soil isn't too harsh you can pull a 3-14. If it is 2wd stick with a 2 bottom or if your soil is heavy clay you may want a 2 bottom. Look for a trip bottom or auto reset (auto reset will be more money) but if you hit something with either a trip or auto reset the plow bottom pops out of the way instead of the shock transferring through the plow and to the tractor and possibly breaking something. Also, some of the older 3 bottom plows can easily break down to a 2 bottom plow by removing a few bolts. This style is ideal for you as you can get a 3 bottom plow and if you have trouble pulling it then remove the third bottom and you have a 2 bottom. This will then give you a parts bottom if you ever have a problem or if you get a larger tractor you can hook the third bottom back up again.

My grandpa pulls a 3 bottom 14 inch Oliver plow with his 2wd 5055d and he says it does a decent job

Since you probably have left over roots have you considered a tiller tool similar to a Fred Cain? This has spring loaded shanks for obstructions. I think they make them as small as 5 & 7 shank.

I think that you would be able to pull it fine with MFWD engaged. I have not tried our plow on my 5055E yet. I will say I have a 2wd TN70 New Holland that does not have any fluid in tires or weights and a 3 bottom 14"plow stops it dead in its tracks. I can hook the same plow to my old MF 255 tractor I had and pull it no problem. It has allot more built in weight.
