I performed the 50 hour service on my MX5100 yesterday and it was not a big deal at all and was rather interesting. The only surprise was the nipple that holds the hydraulic high pressure filter on came out with the filter. I wasn't expecting that! It was no big deal other than I lost more hydraulic fluid than I expected to lose while I was unscrewing the nipple and rethreading it onto the mount. There was a good bit of crud on/in the return filter so I took it to my dealer and asked him about it. He said that was normal and that there was very little metal in it. That's why they want the filters replaced at 50 hours, to catch all the crud in the system from the manufacturing process. He is a good dealer and only about 8 miles from my place. It did seem to me that the HST whine was lessened after this service, but that is simply a perception, I did not take any sound readings prior to or following the service. I did use the new SUDT2 for this as I like synthetic oils and between what I lost during the change and adding to the 4WD front end I used about 1.5 gallons of the liquid gold. I also re-torqued the bolts on the tractor and loader and most of them were snug and fine prior to the check as it turned out. I think I am set for the winter now. I plan to stretch fence this winter if the weather permits as I plan to start running cattle again in the spring and I have several thousand feet of fence to replace/repair. I bought one of the Tarter fence unroller/stretchers from TSC and I will report how it works once I use it.
