After three weeks realize I already have 30 hours.
The book says the 50 hours service involves essentially changing the oil. The dealer says you have to change the oil, all filters and the all hydraulic fluid. This will come to a grand total of $650 includiing transport. Says the oil alone is $200. Does this sound right?

To pay $650.00 for your 50 hour service is nuts. Even if you don't own so much as a screwdriver in the way of tools you could get all the required tools, drain pan, rags and probably a right fancy pair of coveralls and still be way ahead. Get the filters from the dealer then you could go to Wally World and and get your Mobil 1 diesel oil, grease gun, Slick 50 grease and even hydraulic oil. I get the Citgo trans/hyd oil at TSC since my manual specifically calls for it. The job itself is easy an you have a terrific resource right here for any questions you might have. Last but not least, theres that feeling of satisfaction you get from doing it yourself. Helps you gain familiarity with your machine. I can't stand to see a mechanic at the shop jump on my equipment crank without preheating and immediatley upon starting pour the coals to it like a lunatic. I like to let mine warm up a few seconds before going WOT. Unless this dealer is transporting your tractor a loooooong way he is giving you a royal one.

Look in your manual. You don't have to change your hydraulic fluid at this time, just the hydraulic filter, fuel, oil, and air filters. By now you should have already been lubing all of your zerk fittings. At this time, you will also be servicing the front axle. Just get all of your supplies. Then, the night before, sit down, read the entire maintenance procedure, and get a good night's sleep. Next morning you should be raring to go. Take your time. Many have forgotten to replace their drain plugs. Possibly and extremely expensive error. Whoever said haste makes waste probably learned from experience.

BTW I think your dealer is way out of line. All of the fluids and filters purchased from the dealer totaled $91.05, and I could have save some money by shopping around for fluids, but I was new at it, and it was one stop shopping. You will be glad you did it yourself. I highly recommend a power grease gun.

On my 2015 the dealer recommended and I agreed to do all service at 50 hrs. His reason was after 50 hrs all the junk from assembly and initial break in would be washed down and needed to be drained instead of leaving it in till 100 or 150 hrs to possibly cause problems. My bill for all fluids and filters was under $200 and he picked it up and delivered it back to me. I have heard of cases where the first major service was thrown in by the dealer. I think I would do mine if he had wanted $650 to do it. I think filter kits are available for around $100 and I know fluids won't run anywhere near $550 so you can save enough for some other tractor toys if you do it yourself.. John

$650? Yikes! I am planning to do my 50hr myself and this really confirms it. My manual also says to change the front axle fluid. It also says not to change the Hyd fluid - just the filter. My plan is to get all the filters from the dealer and the fluids from TSC. I may go synthetic with the engin oil.

Good luck,
Ben

when i bought my 5500 fwd, the dealer threw in the first 50 hour maint free, and when the 50 hours came up it was no problem, it only cost me $60.00 for him to pick it up and bring it back, this included the engine oil and filter and transmission oil, and cleaning the hyd. suction strainer and power steering fluild and filter change.
and while he had it i bought a new 6' grader blade, so he put it on and brought it out when bringing the tractor back.

I did the 50 hour service on my 2015 HST myself. I changed all the fluids at 50 hours to get the assembly and break in junk out as noted above. I think that it's more important for a tractor with an HST than a gear tractor. You should be able to get the filters fairly reasonably from your dealer. There was a post in the Mahindra thread about 9 months ago with the MSRP's of the 15 series filters. Fluids you can either get locally or from your dealer. Read the manual, take your time, and make sure your drain pans are large enough and easily fit underneath the tractor.

i did my 50 hr service myself. my dealer said it would cost me about $500 to have them do the 100 or 150 hr service. i will probably end up doing it myself when it comes time, but your quote of $650 is way to high. i thought $500 was a bit high when i got my quote.

Just a question about changing the hydraulic filter --

The 15-series manuals, and several posts above, say to change the hydraulic filter, but not the tranmission fluid during the 50 hour service.

When read that in the manual, I assumed something got lost in the translation to English.

Am I missing something? Can the filter be removed without removing the transmission fluid?

One other question -- last year we moved to a county where we don't have recycling. When you've got several gallons of oil to dispose of, what do you do with it? I asked the guy at the service center where I get my truck oil changed if he would take it. He looked at me like I was crazy.

Thanks,

Knute

DOnt' know where in WV you are, but advanced Auto Parts lists 4 places in the state that will accept used motor oil.

I searched on "used motor oil west virginia"
