I now have 49 hours on my 45A -- Should I do the 50 hour maintenance or take it to the dealer? I can check fluid levels, change oil and grease fittings but are there any magic tests they do at the dealer that I would not know about and does it effect the warrantee

There is nothing magical about the 50-hr service. You can easily do everything yourself. If you don't have any warranty repairs to be done, I'd sure recommend doing the service yourself. You'll save at least $100 and the hassle of hauling the tractor.

Just to add to Neil's excellent "pic-tutorial," I believe your tractor has two engine sump drain plugs (one on each side of the fwd driveshaft) and also two sump drains for the transmission oil (which does not get drained at the 50 hr). Only the main hydraulic filter and HST filter should be changed. Since your tractor is a 45A, you don't have to worry about the HST filter.

Just did my 50 hour maintenance based on a TC30. Thanks for the great pics and tutorial on here. Only caveat, when a newbie (i.e. me) sees "Bleed fuel line" he doesn't always how to do that and thinks its nothing. Got all done with the maintenance and when I started it, it only ran for a couple of seconds. Once I got the manual out it was easy, but it took me 20 min. of swearing to figure out I had to look it up.

As such, to bleed the lines, there is a little screw on top of what I think are the injectors, you just have to open it up until fuel runs out freely. Tighten it down and botta bing, botta, boom.

Thanks folks for your help on this project. All and all, I was very comfortable doing the maintenance and new my problem would end up being a simple fix.

You are right on the two plugs. Also I noticed a number of differences in the recommended changes for the 50 hour.... One said check the fuel filter, one said replace and the the same with the Hydrolics. I'll just be safe and replace them. Thanks again for all the helps
