Sub-Compact Utility tractor

Subcompact tractors are engineered for smooth surfaces.
Your subcompact tractor is narrow and has small wheels, which affects the stability and cut of a Rotary Cutter. Few operators find subcompact tractors satisfactory in field work. Ride is too rough, mowing speed too slow.

A 48" width Rotary Cutter will be tippy enough.

I had an old JD tractor for years similar in size/hp to your Boomer. I ran a 48” cutter and it worked well. I think a 5’ cutter would be a bit large for your tractor.

Thanks for the answers, I think I better stick with the 4' hp wise as well as weight.

It would work on level ground with just a light cut, but anything else would be really difficult. 5 foot mowers can weigh between 450lb and 900lbs. That makes a difference.

agree, maybe a 5' lightweight finish mower, but for utility use, would not recommend.

I run a 48" brush hog/rotary cutter on my Kubota B2601.

In heavy pasture cutting, it generally does OK in low gear but, occasionally it will bog down. Heavy cover taller than the hood has been cut but, it is slow going and will leave a rough finish due to dull blades and material filling the deck volume of the mower.

On reasonable size material, I can cut faster than I can stay in the seat in the pastures I mow.

You will also need nose weights. On my B2601, the front end is really light on a level concrete driveway. In the pasture, I have had the tractor 'see-saw' to the rearward wight bias.

You will do a lot better with a 4-foot flail but, those are impossible to find where I live. I saw a Victory (Chinese) flail on a 40Hp tractor that would side-shift that looked really good. No way to deal with the weight transfer on our tractors though.

I would check out the Caroni's at Agrisupply before I spend any money.
