I was hogging the fields at my folks place yesterday, chomping down on some bushes, and I guess it plucked the cotter pin out of the nut. The tapered spline got slightly chewed up, but not too bad. Filed a little and put it back on with a nail in place of the cotter pin. I guess I got lucky.

Sounds lucky enough.
What brush hog is this?

It's the Farm Force (TSC). It has a disk with the two pivoting blades attached to it.
It cuts real good, when the blades are on it..

I hate it when that happens ! Sounds like you got off easy

:confused2: Did the whole disc come off, or one of the blades? Blades can fly pretty far even after going thru the skirt on the bushog.

That's what I was thinking, the whole thing was better than just one piece..
it didn't go anywhere, just got a lot quieter. I even found the nut.

I would have thought it would have gotten a LOT noisier. That imbalance thing causes all sorts of bad vibrations!
