4K TV's or not

Wow, my head hurts from looking at TV's. I think I want a 4k TV just so I'm set for a few years once the content catches up with the TV's. I know the 4K's also up convert the 1080 stuff too. Been looking at Samsung, Vizio, LG and Sharp. Thinking I want a 60", have a 65" rear projection Mitsubishi DLP now, great TV by the way. But I want something I can mount on the wall. I get an e-mail from Sams Club this morning for a 65" Vizio Model D65U-D2 for $998, special deal for tomorrow only, even has free shipping if I buy online. Problem is, it's a brand new TV, no reviews yet. Guess I can always take it back if I don't like it. Thoughts? Recommendations?

I can't help with review or anything. Just thought I'd mention (in case you may not be aware) that Vizio has defaulted their smart TVs to "spy mode" turned on, so you have to go in to the menu and turn it off if you don't want them doing that to you.

The signal coming out of your cable box is only 720p... So it's all up-converting software to get to 4K at the moment. And I think that moment will be pretty long.

I can get 1080i but not 1080p through my cable box and some very limited 4K content through Netflix. Blue ray looks great and supposedly a 4K player is coming out soon. I have the 71" LG 4K television and like it a lot. The smart tv features are very nice. My recommendation would be to check out reviews comparing the smart tv features before making a decision.

There is little 4K material and even fewer ways to transport it. It will be years, if ever, before true 4K transmissions OTA or cable are commonplace.

Purchased a Vizio E320i-B2 from Sams Club last year, really like it. After reading many blogs wehen researching the unit also purchase the Vizio S4221w-C4 Sound Bar from Amazon Warehouse, opened box but in great working consition and it's a good thing I did. I have a 16" depth Entertainment Cabinet where the TV was set, a tight fit all the way around. Why the sound bar - The TV sound emits to the sides of the unit rather than front, also if you read the blogs the TV speakers don't product a good full range sound, the Sound Bar comes with a seperate Subwoofer & remote. I would have gone a bigger size but confined to the cabinet.

Thanks for the heads up. Went in and turned off the "interactive services" (or whatever it was called) on the admin page. I never hooked it up to the internet so I don't believe there was any spying going on, but might try it someday if I feel like pulling a CAT5 cable into the living room.

What exactly does a tv do to make it "smart"? Is it just that it's capable of connecting to streaming services (subscription required I presume) without an external box or is there more to it than that? We just use it like an old fashioned dumb tv.
The manual didn't really explain very much.

Most of the newer TV's have WiFi built in, you may not need to run that Cat 5 Cable.

There's no 4K programming to watch anyway, I'll wait. If you want to watch 720 or 1080 converted to 4K go ahead, that's not real 4K. Most the 1080 you are watching is 720 converted, very little 1080 is even true 1080. HS
