Can anyone tell me a fair price or what you have paid for a new 4940 with FEL in or around North Alabama?

List on tractor is $22,023 and list on loader is $4839 so take it from there. If comparing different Montana dealers keep in mind how far you are willing to travel for service.

If comparing to other tractors, please read the specs closely. If another brand seems to be priced much better, chances are it is not an apples to apples comparison. Keep in mind the 4 cyl Mitsubishi engine, two sets of hyd remotes, draft control, etc. Also, the loader specs on these things are awesome!

The 4940 with the curved boom loader is one heck of a nice tractor with tons of options in the price!!

Best of luck,
Ken

Thanks for the info Montanaman.

I have compared all of the big brand tractors and have pretty much decided on the Montana 4940. I would just like to know the best price I can get. I have been quoted between $21,000 to 21,500 by several dealers and that sounds very reasonable, considering all of the extras that are standard on this tractor, including the FEL.

The FEL that is on one of them is the older Koyker "185" (Quaker) loader which I prefer over the newer curved loaders, mainly because of the steel hydraulic lines as opposed to the rubber lines on the new ones. Not sure the rubber hoses will hold up as well as the steel ones.....I may be wrong on this though.

Any one had problems with the rubber hoses? Both loaders have the skid steer type quick attach system which seems very nice.

If anyone has actual prices in this area, I would greatly appreciate it.

I have read a lot on this forum, and believe there is a lot of valuable information here, especially for someone looking for a new tractor, like myself.

Thanks.

I have the new style loader on a 3040 and the hoses were a concern to me. I put heater hose split in half where there was contact with metal. I figure when one does go bad I will replace them with steel lines. I am pretty sure that given a cardboard template of the arm radius a good tube bender can make steel lines.

Are you sure it is not an ansung loader. That is what the old style loader on my 4940c is. If you do have the ansung loader the answer is yes I have had problems with the rubber hoses. The first month I had it I blew three of them out they burst right where the connector crimped on the hose. After the third one I called montana and talked to them. They had me bring the tractor to the headquarters and they checked all the hydraulics pressures. They could not find anything wrong. I mentioned to them that the hoses on there were only 2450 psi rated and the hydraulics pressure on the tractor I believe is around 2350. The new hoses that I had made were for 4000 psi. Wayne at headquarters told me that the new loaders had 4000 psi hoses on them. Since he could not find anything wrong with my hydraulics he just went ahead and replaced all of the hoses on the loader with 4000 psi hoses. I have not had any problem since he did that

Wayne is a great guy. On the 4340 (same as 4940) with the Ansung loader I had a couple do the same thing. Replaced the hose's and waalaa no problem since then and this has been over 2 years ago on that machine.

The Koyker and new curved boom loaders have had no hose issues and I have dozens of them out being used in many applications.

Thanks,
Maka

I've got the new curved loader on my R4944 with 3500 or 4000lb hoses and no problems so far. I even picked up a huge maple log that the loader could only barely get off the ground (~3000 lb) and no leaks or busted hoses, and it's doing a fantastic job helping me get my leaves in a giant pile.

I really agree with the wayne being a great guy statement. While using my loader I had a tree branch catch one of the steel lines that go across behind the bucket. It bent it out a bit not enough to crimp it but it was a pretty good bend. I had not replaced it when I took the tractor to Wayne. I told him that it was my fault the steel line got bent and I would fix it later. He replaced the rubber lines and after I got home with the tractor I was using it and I realized that he had replaced the steel line as well. My experience with the folks at Montana has been very good. My tractor itselt has worked very well for me. The only complaint I have is the lack of a decent manual. I am aware that tech writing is a long process sometimes.Wayne did inform me that writing those is in progress and hopefully they will have one available within the next year.

Seems like the focus got away from the price and more on the hose issue with the FEL. Would still like any input on pricing.

Also, would it be better to go with ag tires or industrial tires? I prefer the look of the industrial tires, but have read somewhere that you loose 25% to 30% of the traction over ag tires. I really wanted the industrial tires so it would be less likely to tear up grass while transporting from place to place. I would hate to spend the money for the 4wd and limit its potential with industrial tires. Any pros and cons to either one?

Not sure what you are looking for but I think the quotes you got are very low. If you think it's a good deal at that price and you like the tractor, then you'll likely be happy. If you like the dealer and think they can provide you with good after sales service then the deal just got better! The guy sure isn't going to retire on the profit from that sale so he should be here in the future to help you!!

As far as the tires, you pretty much hit the nail on the head! In my area, the R-4 is the tire of choice and most not wanting the R-4s, want turfs. No, it won't provide the traction of an Ag tire but it won't do the damage an Ag will. I think it is, for many, the best compromise but that's something you need to decide.
