The bigger the deck, the faster you get done..... don't let anyone convince you that sitting in the tractor seat in the hot sun, baking the top of your head is enjoyable. No matter how hard they try, I am just not convinced. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Are you talking finish mower or rotary cutter?

My B7100 ( 17hp ) would turn a 4' rotary cutter or a 5' finish mower nicely as long as it wasn't going up a steep hill or in tall grass....

Take a good look at the two decks. The 54 is is a much better deck. I have the 54 and the BX1500 has plenty of power to run it.

6 inches of cutting width is a plus. I would not even look at the 48 inch unless money was a factor. I would opt for the 54 inch mower.

The only reason I could see for the 48" is if you had to fit between objects that were less than 54".

Otherwise, bigger is better (arrrgh!). /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I would get the 54" deck. If I remember it is a better deck as mentioned previously. I want to think the 48" has more plastic on it and may be lighter gage metal...

A wider deck will let you cut closer to things easier and also gives a smaller uncut circle when you turn.

You are correct plus the 54 can roll out on its own wheels.

Re: 48\' MOWER OR 54\" MOWER bx1500

I presume you mean an MMM, not an RFM?

My BX2200 has far more than enough power to run my 60" MMM. I'd guess the BX1500 has plenty of power to run the 54" MMM.

I'd think the 54" should cut more grass faster. It will have a 3" narrower turn radius when cutting around things like trees, so less forwards & backwards movements doing so.

Do you have to cut between any two objects that are more than 48" apart yet less than 54" apart? If so the 48" fits & the 54" doesn't. On the other hand, it you have other objects with something less than 48" between them, you're still going to need a little push mower or string trimmer to get between them anyway.

Getting a 60" MMM attached & detatched from a BX2200 can be an involved task (if you care to, you might want to search the archived threads). I have no idea re. this but I wonder how the 48" & the 54" compare in ease of attachment/disattachment. A smooth paved surface makes a huge difference. If you don't have one, getting the MMM out is harder; will the few pounds less weight of the 48" matter in that case? (Some people just drive over the MMM, but I wouldn't.) If you're using your BX1500 exclusively for mowing, this is a moot point. If you only need to remove the MMM on rare occasions, it might not matter too much. If you need to remove it often (the lift arms for the MMM & the lift arms for the rear 3ph move simultaneously-if you lower a rototiller on the 3ph & you have the MMM still attached, the mid-arms will lower the MMM at the same time) then this is probably something to consider.

Good luck with your decision.

I take my 60" MMM off my BX2200 a lot, and I don't think it is all that involved...

BUT I must say, since I don't have a loader, something that REALLY makes a difference, is driving the front wheels up on some fence post ends that I had laying around. Only 3.5 or 4" high, but that little difference in height makes all the difference in the world for getting the mower out and back under the bX.

Even on a dirt shed floor (dirt with some limestone chips on it.) I used to use some plywood pieces, but now don't bother. With the extra height, the deck comes out easy enough that I just pull it on the ground without problem.

I suppose what I am trying to say is, after you get used to doing it, taking the MMM off is no big deal, and putting it back on is not that much more of a hassle either... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Now I may think different in 20 years when I am 87...but that is the way it works for me now... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
