475 DI transmission - locked in reverse

This tractor has never been out of low/high 1st or reverse.
I was trying to pull the shift plate and it seemed to shift into the other gears, but when I started iot up - only reverse low. This has happened before and I think they had to pull it forward or reverse in gear.
Any suggestions?

Could the clutch plate be stuck?

I have heard about older tractor's clutches getting stuck over winter. I use a c-clamp to clamp my clutch peddle down during the winter months on my 350-DI.

The clutch seems to work fine. This tractor has never been in any other gear except low/high 1st or reverse. I believe that one of the dolly boys shifted it going down the ramp and it jumped out of gear and/or the "shifting rails" were bent. But I'll be finding out soon as I took the tractor to the dealer this morning. The service manager seemed to know something about this problem when I spoke with him Friday. He seems it'll take 3 hours @ $65.00 per hour to correct if nothing is bent or has to be replaced. A price I can live with without me breaking it down.

I am having the same shifting problem with my 575 DI except it will not go into 3rd or 4th gear unless I really force it. If I finally get it in gear, it won"t come out of gear unless I really force it and I'm afraid I might break something. Would be interested in knowing what you found out about your problem.

Good Morning Larneau,
I brought the tractor in and had the service dept. repair the shifting rods.
They were bent or misaligned. The tractor had not been shifted into higher gears for some time. They lubricated them and the shifter is fine. My only concern is "stiffness" in shifting. I think with use it will loosen up.
But all things taken into consideration I believe this tractor will be a pretty good addition to hay production equipment. We own a JD5420 and a Long 445.

At one time, my shifter on the 350-DI was having a hard time going into 2nd and 3rd. I solved the problem by lubricating the shifter location of where it goes into the trans. Apparently over the season rust and dirt had formed within the top of the shifter mechanism. After a couple of squirts of liquid wench, I have not had any more problems with the shifter (12 months later). Hope this helps.
