4720 mystery shaft?

Hi:

I was crawling underneath my 4720 tonight and noticed a right to left keyed shaft that goes
through the transmission (Above the driveshaft to the front) - not quite centered under the cab. Not hooked up to anything and it just freely spins.

Anyone happen to know what this is for? Maybe some sort of pivot for the MMM?
It's got me curious.

So, the ends of the shaft orient to the left and right of the tractor? And they're a splined shaft - like a pto?

What you are describing sounds like the shaft the brake pedals attach to on non-cab tractors. I am guessing that Deere uses the same transmission for both types of tractors and the shaft doesn't get used on cab tractors.

No splines, just a single milled slot for a woodruff key.

It probably could be the brakes except that it's a single shaft so the pedals would be
in tandem unless one of the pedals had an additional bearing. That's probably the
case I bet.

I'll try and get some pictures the next time I'm out there.

Is it #3 in the diagram? I think it's for the parking brake of the non-cabbed version. It's listed under "Shaft, Park Brake S/Nxxxxxxx"
