I ran across previous posting by Chuck in NH (although I don't think it was of his tractor)of a 2520 running a 47" snowblower with some sort of I'll call them wings attached to the sides of the augur housing to increase the blower width.

Are these "wings" a factory item? I could not find them in JD parts.

My 2520 has yet to arrive and my dealer E-mailed to ask if I might want a 54" blower this winter. I asked at what cost? Seems to me it might be around $4,000 with all the hardware. So I am waiting for reply.

After bumping into that older post it got me wondering about the effectiveness/cost of a 47" blower with these "wings" verses a 54" blower?

Hi,

The owner of the 2520 in the picture is from Penn. (I don't think Chuck would own a green tractor, unless it's a new lawn mower, right Chuck?) I talked with him about the wings and he said that they tend to pull the tractor to the side a bit in hardpacked snow. He made them out of flatstock. I'll see if I can dig up the PM's he sent me and post them.

Tom

I have a set of these, had them on my 47'' blower and now their on my new 54'' blower. They work great, funneling the snow into the blower and cutting into the snow. I haven't had any pulling problems. There are a few other posts on this site talking about these wings. I made a template out of card board with two 45 degree bends getting me a total of 7'' width, brought them to a steel fab shop and total cost was 40 dollars for the steel plates and having them bent. I used 5/16'' plate, drilled them out myself and mounted them.

I like my Kubota pretty well, and after 7 years of Kubota's I finally got the hat to prove it. :D I do like John Deere green too though, and came very close to buying one when I got the B2620. I had some jobs that I wanted to get done right away since I was facing some medical issues, and the Deere dealerships just didn't have what I needed in stock, and weren't sure about delivery times. The Kubota dealer had just what I was looking for, and could deliver in a matter of a few days, so I have an Orange tractor. Now if we could take the best features of both, and put them in one tractor we would have a very nice unit indeed............. not a very good color though! :D
Yes, the member that owns that JD is from northern VT, or NY state, and I don't remember which. I sometimes file pictures of things I feel are useful, or well done away, and that was one of the photos that I saved. I think I have more of that modification if they are needed, and hopefully the owner of the tractor won't mind if we use them. He did a very good job fabricating them. I have also seen "drift knives" that are available for Kubota blowers that also function as extensions...... and they were black, a color war neutral color.

Sounds like the wings work fine

I have looked around and used 54" blowers are scarce, not so sure about the 47". I'll need to start looking around to get an idea. I am even less sure about finding what I think is called the Quick Hitch porition.

I don't think I will be as lucky as my finding a backhoe with a 2520 frame to find a blower removed from a 2520 with all the parts and pieces for a low . :licking:
