4600 w/backhoe 1400 hours

Tractor Gurus,
My dad is looking at a 2001 4600 w/R4 tires w/4wd and w/backhoe (digs to 8 feet I assuming a JD48) with 1400 hours. The previous owner used it but doesn't seem used up. I have a 1999 4300 and I know there were some early glitches with my tractor. I am wondering if there are any know glitches with this model and if $15,000 is a good deal. Dad can wait if this seems too much and oh I am in Michigan if that changes anything.

I have a 4600 with 600 hours and bought it used for 20k. There were some minor problems with front axle and tight turns tearing up turf that I had read about before buying. I do not notice that problem on mine. Any machine in 4 wheel drive will tear up turf in a tight turn. The 15,000 is a good price , the backhoe alone is probably worth 5,000, that leaves 10,000. If it is good shape buy it. It will not last long at that price. Well maintained that machine should go 4,000 to 5,000 hours.

I have a 1999 JD 4500, 4WD, Pwr Reverser, JD Loader and a Woods 750 Backhoe, from what you have described, sounds like a good price and I would buy it. Check out the pins in the hoe for wear/slop, any welds on the loader/backhoe, and any unusual wear or where the previous owner didn't grease it routinely. Does it come with manuals??

If you replace the fuel filter, oil filter, hydraulic fluid (7gals), hydraulic filter, and air filter it will cost about $175.00 from the dealer, just came back from making that purchase, motor oil and top off with anti-freeze aren't included.
