460 Long UTB battery?

I am buying an old used 460 Long UTB tractor. The battery that is in it is in bad shape and has to be jumped to start. The battery that is in it is the wrong battery as 1 of the past owners had to remove the grill to install it and now with this battery the grill wont fit back on. So if any one knows what size battery or has a refferance number for it that would be a great help. I did find reprint service and part manuals on line but I would rather spend the money on the battery first then buy some manuals. Thanks for any help.Dave M.

Any battery that wil fit in the area where the battery goes will work if the battery cables on the tractor will reach the battery post.

According to their website, that tractor should be able to use either of these two Interstate batteries:

29H-VHD
3EH-VHD

I am sure those number can cross over to other brand batteries.

Thanks for all of the help. My buddy is an interstate battery deal so that worksout great. The only think that leaves me scratching my head is 1 of those batteries is 12v. and the other is 6v. The battery that is in there looks like 12v and the owner said it was 12v but I did not have a multi meter to test it. Does any one know if the system is 6 volt or 12 volt or is it showing the 6volt battery so that I would use 2 of them to get 12volts? Thanks again for all your help. Dave M.

My guess would be that if there is a 12v one in there now, it is most likely a 12v system.

One way to tell would be ... when you jumped it, did you use a 12v battery? If so, did the starter and motor turn over normally or did it race over very fast and sound like it was an old Chrysler on steroids?

If it sounded normal - 12v

If it raced - 6v
