I bought a 1994 455 AWS last year as a project mower and i have been mowing with it and it does a great job. Plenty of power, just needs a little cosmetic work. However, I noticed when i take the fuel cap off the tank you can hear a considerable amount of air being released. Is this normal?? Thanks!

I haven't noticed that on my 455 AWS. But am thinking that the fuel cap is vented, and the vent may be plugged.
I'll try to pay more attention the next time. I'm assuming that this is after the 455 has been run for awhile ?

They are nice tractors, aren't they. :)

been there, yeah so far i am really enjoying the 455. Seems like it has plenty of power/torque. It needs a few things here and there but overall is a nice mower. I noticed the other day when i took the fuel cap off it seemed like alot of air being released. Probably stopped up as I believe you are right about the vent. Also, as previously stated, the mower is an AWS. While mowing, When i turn sharp and then straighten it out i can feel some play (a sharp jerk) toward the rear. Could this be a bearing?? The AWS seems great for mowing around trees etc... I was a little skeptical of it at first but after mowing with it a few times i can see why people like them so much.
