Ok folks I presently have a 3505di...been a wonderful little tractor, but I'm ready to move up in hp, 4wd, and FEL. I have about 35 acres to play ...I mean work with. I really like the 4530,just worried about the 42 hp and 34 pto hp. I would love to hear from current owners of these...the good and bad.
thanks

What are you going to do with the tractor? I don't know your answer without knowing what you plan to do with the tractor.

Sorry for the lack of info. I will use the tractor for bushhogging (about 15 acres),garden discing (about 1 acre garden),moving large round bales of hay,and a lot of clean up with FEL. Been quoted $20850 for 4530...$22800 for 5500 fwd...and no quote yet on 5520 fwd...all will be with FEL. Interested in other owners of all these tractors on their performance or lack of. Thanks

How big is your brush hog and your disc? It sounds like any one of them would easily do your job.

Step up to the 5500 4wd or the 5520 4wd. The 4530 is a strong machine, but can be a little sluggish in the higher gears with a loader, especially with a backhoe, as it is getting really heavy for 42HP. The 5520 is the little brother to the 7520 and has the flat platform and other creature comforts. If you value such things, then it's worth it over the 5500. Both have excellent performance.

Presently my disc, box blade, and bushhog are 5'...the ones I bought when I bought my 3505di. I would like to go up to a 7' equip later. The concern on the 4530 42hp is when bushhogging with my 3505 in mid summer,I sometimes have to go all the way to 1st gear low to get the heavier stuff cut. The brushhog is a SE5 Rhino. Thanks again

MEGray,

I have a 4530 with 6' implements, including a Bush Hog 286, a Howse disc, Bush Hog grader box, numerous garden implents (plows, ridgers, cultivators, etc.), and a 5' Bush Hog finishing mower. I have 20 acres of land, about 12 acres of which is field and the rest wooded. I do a lot of the things you mentioned and I have no problem getting the job done. I don't have the FEL (felt like it puts too much force on the front end possibly leading to premature failure of the axles and bearings up front), but that was my own choice based on my own opinion.
The only problem I do have is even though I bought heavier made (not the heaviest made) implements, I have bent or broke a few of them due to the tractor's power (and a little operator error!). Don't let the hp and pto rating fool you. This is a strong machine, and is contoversial as to whether or not it is accurately rated. I have had to beef up the box and my boom pole looks like a pretzel now. I almost went with the 6000 4wd, but since I also use the tractor for mowing my lawn I felt I needed something more maneuverable (smaller). With the industrial tires I can mow my yard, bush hog my field, grade my drive, work my .5 acre garden, plant 5 or 6 1-acre food plots (land adjacent to me), and just about everything else I would need done with the setup I have. I also do most of this in high range 1st gear without ever bogging the engine. My field is Bahaia (sp?) and it can get as high as the hood of the tractor, but I never have any problem cutting it.
I agree, the 4530 may lack a little in gearing at the top end, but face it, we're not bracket racing here, and I never use 4H unless I am on the road going from A to B! I am pleased with my purchase and see no reason why you wouldn't be. My dad told me that more power is always a good thing, but it doesn't mean you have to use it all the time. I find I have plenty of power to spare and wouldn't hesitate running beside the other two you listed. What it boils down to is it is your tractor, your needs, your money. Get the most you can within the budget you set and you won't be disappointed.

With a plan for 7' implements in the future, I would go for one of the 55 hp models. I pull a 7' brush hog with a 6000 and there are a few patches of tall, thick fescue that require third gear (3L) working hard, whereas most other places cut easy in fifth (1H). You described your current 35hp tractor as requiring 1st gear, at times, with a 5' cutter. A 45hp tractor with 7' cutter would likely also require 1L or 2L in those places.
You will need 7' equipment to cut out the tire tracks. Six foot blade will leave an inch for the 4530 which is 73" wide and leave 5" for the 5500. That's for a disc or straight blade; when you angle the blade its effective width is less.

Come on guys...give me some reports on your 4530's,5500's and 5520's. I'm still leaning towards the 4530 w FEL.Is $20,800 a good price on the 4530 with FEL? Will the 4530 handle large round hay bales with the FEL...would it take one on front and one on rear at same time??? Thanks

Yes. You have plenty of loader out there.
