What are you trying to do with your 4530, when it doesn't have enough power?

How big is the mower you are using? The 4530 has so much low end torque that it is a tough one to stall. I had a customer who was running an 8' rotary cutter with a 3525 which made her grunt a bit but she was hard to kill. I'm just wondering if is tuned correctly.

I am using a six foot mower running 5th gear so I am not out there for six hours but only three hours. It does do fine in second or third gear, but it takes all day long.

Run it in 3rd and enjoy the ride....as well as the day. I run a 6000 in 4th with a 7ft in 3ft field grass...after all...what else you got to do??/BobG in VA

I think a turbo would be cool. The rest of the tractor is surely a beast. Of course as a dealer, I can't recommend doing this as it could affect warranty, but a turbo and a little more fuel should get you in the 50HP plus range.

Question: If I look at the specs on a 7520 and the specs on a 6000, the only "difference" is a relatively low boost turbo to make the additional 15 hp. BUT, the compression ratio on the 7520 is less than the 6000 to accomodate the increased compression caused by the turbo boost. I'd think that a turbo on a 4530 (I believe we are talking about 3 out of the 4 cyl on 6000 (displacement wise) would require lower compression pistons to start, or you could potentiall blow a hole in the top of one/more with prolonged use with a turbo...am I missing anything here??/ I'd suggest forget the turbo and turn up the pump a tad...if you have to...bobg in Va

I agree if a turbo is definately what he wants, he really needs to have someone install it that really knows what he is doing or there could be some dire consequences. I also agree with Dave, that would be cool!

There is a thread somewhere on TBN where guys were discussing this generically. On some engines where a turbo is added, there are many changes, like compression and even piston cooling. On some models, basically a turbo is bolted on. If a person were to do this, a pyrometer would be a must have, melting down the pistons would be a bad thing. Of course an intercooler would help with that.....

I have a good friend with a 1964 Valiant Slant six. It is now fuel injected and supercharged, with an intercooler. Plus a 5-speed. With all the effort, he probably should have stood the engine upright and got rid of the slant as well. :D Of couse this guy is a mechanical engineer.

Sounds to me like you need a bigger tractor and a 15' batwing. That way you can get your mowing done in 2 hours.:D It's tough to have your cake and eat it, too. Remember if you "hot rod" your tractor, you most likely will cut down on its life span. If the bigger equipment is out of the question, then I suggest getting used to the idea of long days mowing. There is a reason that pumped up engines need to be rebuilt more often, and that is why you don't find them in standard cars, trucks, tractors etc. The longevity just isn't there.

Just my opinion, others will vary.;)

Diesel engines work on an entirely different cycle than a gas engine. On a gas engine additional air flow gives more fuel. A diesel has no throttle in the air inlet; it is constantly supplied with maximum air. To vary power or speed you must vary the fuel via the high pressure pump and injection nozzles. You can not simply add a turbo and get more power; if fact adding a turbo will not give an increase in power. Only one way to increase power on a diesel; give it more fuel. Which means a bigger injection pump and larger nozzles - an expensive proposition.
A turbo charged engine is designed that way from the bottom up.

thanks for all the input. a bigger tractor would be nice if the finances would alow it.
