I've decided on a Massey after looking at the Mahindras fro a while. Finally got to operate them right after each other... compared the mahindra 4530 to the 451... figure these are about as comparable as I could get. The MF just felt like it had more oomph, could be the extra cubes. Looking at the 451 vs 461 I was surprised to see the dimensions differed with the 461 being smaller. Other notable differences were no creeper gear on the 461. I like the 461's higher ground clearance. Is there a big difference between dry dual disc clutch vs single disc, and the 461 also has a lower gpm for hydraulics. I do want a FEL with bale spear. Looking to replace old MF135, primarily used for maintaining established pasture, box blading, grading of neighborhood road. Also will be used for food plot maintenance at hunting lease... some areas get real boggy. Any suggestions/ideas. All implements are 6' size cat 1. Assume the 461 is more economical with turbo, hence the smaller fuel tank?? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

If the 431 had a shuttle shift rrans on it I woudl seriously be looking at it in a year or two.
I like the 451 and yes I saw the specs too as you mentioned. I don't know tractor with 10 more horses woudl have lower gpm on the hydraulics, but rest assured there would still be plenty enough for what you need.

On the other hand the 461 runs 2650 psi hydraulics while the 451 runs at 2500. Not biggie but there's a difference. The rear hitch can handle more weight on the 461. Also the hood is flat on the 461 while the 451 is sloping towards the driver. I think these subtle variances originate from their location of manufacture 451 brazil vs 461 Turkey

Both are real tractors that I would consider if I were in that market.

Thanks guys... some of this terminology is still new to me. The MF dealer was closing, well actually unlocked the door and came out. I didn't want to overstay my welcome so I didn't ask a lot of questions. He had a 461 and said it was the same as the 451, but with a turbo. Checked the brochure and that's when I noticed the differences. I was hoping one of the MF dealers on here might be able to shed some light.

Hey,

When you buy, make sure the tracotor has a combining valve on the hydraulics. I think the are standard now arent they?

If you are unsure what a combining valve does, When using the loader, you will have more flow to the hydraulics with the combining valve. ( it combines the flow from 2 pumps!! )

Take care,

Will

Ride & Drive My Friend, The 461 Is A Very Nice Piece Of Equipment, 451 Is An Excellent Tractor But If You Can Spring The Extra $ The 461 Will Be Worth it, Look AT The Two Side By Side,Drive The Two, For Standard Loader Work You Wont Notice The GPM Difference, Same Loader Goes On Both, Plus You Can't Beat That Turbo Whisle!!

Thanks for the feedback..... MFRED, you got my attention when you said TURBO Whistle!! I'll probably have to go to another larger dealership to drive the 2 in a comparison... as he only had the 461 in 2WD.
