I have asked if anyone is running this combo in the past, and the only people that were running it had their loader on. I like to mow without the loader, so I asked the local dealer if I could hook on to their MX6 and see how a 4400 would handle the weight.

The short answer is Yes; however you can easily pull the front wheels 4-6 inches off the ground if intending to do so; and loading the combination on a high deck trailer would require caution and common sense.

If you are looking for a heavy 6 ft. mower for a mid-frame tractor, don't be afraid to consider the MX-6.

Did you at least have suitcase weights on the front?

No added weight except the slightly over weight operator.

It was not as bad as I had expected. I would encourage anyone interested in this combo to try it at their dealer as I did.

It sounds like an accident waiting to happen to me,

I would definately add some suitcase weights to the front end just for a little assurance. I have always thought about mowing with the loader off so I could get closer to trees and things without have to go wide and back up, but like the fact that the bucket pushes brush and grass down and is easier to mow over. Also the loader helps find most stumps and rocks and things.

Either way be safe.

I run a 4300 with an MX5 and all the suitcase weights I can hang (6) and I wouldn't want an MX6 on the back! I also don't like mowing with loader on. Don't know off hand what the diff in weight is between MX5 and MX6, but it seems to me on 4300 I don't want any more back there!

I wanted a 72" rotary cutter for my JD 4320 -- in fact, an MX6. But, the dealer said it was too heavy and highly recommended the Frontier 72" cutter instead because of the lighter weight. He also highly recommended either fluid in front tires or suit case weights. I went with the beet juice in the front since he did it at cost (same as in rear tires). After using the Frontier (RC072?) this summer, there are times when I wish there was more weight on the front, especially when going up hill on rough terrain. I'm sure some folks are using MX6 on 4x20 series tractors, but I can't imagine a much heavier MX6 on my 4320 where I'm using it (hills) without adding a lot more weight to the front. Power is no problem whatsoever and I cannot complain about the quality of cutting.
Just my $0.02 on the topic.

I know they are two different types of mowers but we use a Rears 6' flail mower on our 3720. That rears is one of the heaviest things we have and with fluid in the front tires and no loader, you have to be on a hill to even really have any lift on the front. Now, if you are on a hill and go from reverse to forward too quickly..... coming a foot off the ground is not unheard of!

In looking at some specs, the LandPride RCR1872, the Rhino 172, and the MX5 are all in the 800 to 850 pound range with chain guards. The MX6 is 1041 pounds. With the tail wheel on the ground and supporting approx. half of the weight, it would seem that the added weight to the rear of the tractor would be around 100lbs.

Does anyone know if it takes more power to turn the MX6 than the other 72in. cutters?

Most of my cutting is grass so I chose to go with a lighter cutter. It was also $900 less than the MX6.

You are correct for perfectly level ground. But, many times the tail wheel will be off the ground where terrain is rough, hence over 200 lbs more on the hitch. Power is no problem for the 72" cutter -- just have to have sufficient weight on the front.
