4400 R-4 or 4600 R-3\'s

Do the R4's leave imprints in the grass while finish mowing? I am considering a 4400 with R-4's or a 4600 with R-3's. Both with FEL and 48 b'hoe. I want to use the tractor for finish mowing 6 acres, planting about 100 trees and other misc. tasks. I know it's a trade off, but the would the weightier 4600 outperform the 4400 with industrials? I don't want to have ruts in the lawn!

John,

With either tractor, using the backhoe, you would normally load the rear tires...for stability reasons... you can figure that in your equation when adding up the total weight...

The weight difference between both tractors is actually slight, about 550 lbs., no big deal...

I've mention it before, my friend has a Massey 1165 with loaded galaxy turfs and does his lawn with a 12' bat-wing mower... total weight going over the ground ~about 8500 lbs. and he never leaves "ruts" on over 11 acres of lawn {and keeps expanding...} Of course, he doesn't mow when it's wet or damp either...

You have to decide what you're going to use the tractor alot for... the 4600 has more hydraulic hp available and the front/rear axles are beefier for more substantial loads/stress vs. the 4400.

More mowing=4400
More backhoe=4600

Using a backhoe puts tires to the ultimate test... normally a 10 ply industrial... I wouldn't even consider turfs for any backhoe work... unless you basically are playing/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif... those turfs would "pop" quickly with regular backhoe duty...

Any tire,no matter what style will leave imprints/marks under certain wet/moist/loose ground conditions and even more pronounced with some ballast attached...

Finally, I'm assuming you'll religiously be removing the backhoe each and everytime you want to mow your lawn for absolutely no ruts... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I really wasn't worried about "rutting" with the turfs, I was more worried about The R-4's on the 4400 leaving marks. You brought up a point on the turf sidewalls which I wasn't thinking about.
I like the heavier components of the 4600, but feel the 4400 is all I need. I would rather have too big a tractor instead of not big enough.
Is there any center of gravity numbers for these tractors or lean angles to compare to?
