I have a 4320 cab that I recently got, and have put about 8 hrs on. And it hasn't been babied. Filled a box blade in sandy conditions in 4wd, cleared 6ft tall brush, etc. And I feel like I haven't heard the turbo. Are the cabs that quiet? Does the engine make that much power? Or maybe I am used to larger turbos on trucks that make more noise...?

I can hear mine on the 4520 but it isn't real distinct like my first diesel p/u.

Has your tractor held the rpms' okay or do you suspect a problem with it?

I don't think it's unusual to not hear the turbo on the smaller compact utility tractors. I cannot hear the turbo on either my 4320 or 3720. If you are running something on the pto like a rotary cutter through heavy grass the turbo will usually maintain the RPM's but I doubt you will be able to hear the turbo. Also, the fuel usage will rise considerably when working the tractor versus easy use like sickle bar mowing or running a york rake.
If you see a drop off in power it could be any number of causes.

I can't even hear the turbo on my 5075M! Or my truck... (I thunk it's 'cause I spent too many hours listening to the rumble of too many engines without hearing protection!)

If you think there's a problem... lot's of smoke and poor fuel economy are something to look for.

the smaller turbo's spin so fast that they are "super-sonic" if you will. I looked at a turbo deutz that powered a fire pump-compressor and it was there, just well beyond the ability to hear. The noise spike was around 30 KHz on a audio spectrum analyzer.

That makes sense. And I don't hear great anyway. I was noticing today the exhaust is coming out fast and hot, which should be a good sign No black smoke, plenty o' power! Thanks guys.

4x20 machine, volunteer Firefighter, and has a audio spectrum analyzer! You are living the life .

Can't really here the turbo on my 4520, under certain conditions where I think it should kick in I think I've heard it (I was carefully listening).

The 4320 has a turbo? :D

There are some advantages of working on a research university campus. I have several neat toys to play with as the need happens. I was worried as the turbo on the M35 truck that we had was really really loud.

My personal spectrum analyzer starts at a MHz and goes to 26GHz. Useful, but not so much for tractors.

One for what it's worth: Oregon law for power equipment operated in "forest protection areas" allows a turbo (in good condition) to eliminate a spark arrestor otherwise required.
So the wifes 2305 has to have a screen, but the 4520 does not. Lucky for me the forest officer only looked at the big one, as the 2305 does not have the shovel, axe or extinguisher required to be carried.
