Did the 50 hour transmission service and wasn't keeping track of the fluid and put about 2 quarts too much fluid in the transmission. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif It calls for 6.8 gallons and I put in about 7.5 gallons. I am sure the resiviour is big on these transmissions but any idea if this is a problem? I suppose I could drain some out but knowing my luck, I will drop the plug in the bucket and lose half of the oil before I could fish it out. I bought 2 five gallon pails of the Hygard Low-Vis instead of the individual gallons and just lost count.

I did notice a big difference in the reaction time on the transmission with clean fluid, filters and screen. No bid deal on the filters, other than the cost$$.

Thanks /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'd be scared of "foaming". Take a look at the sight glass in the rear below the rockshaft & see if the fluid fills the entire glass or is there a clear spot on the top?? Beware if the sightglass is completely filled.

No such luck. Sight glass is full. Wonder if I can siphon some out of the fill with a small pump? I just hate to think of pulling the main drain plug to let some out. There is another plug that is in the cover that bolts on over the metal screen. Maybe I can pull this and drain some from that location. Either way, I just know it is going to be a big mess. Grrrr

You can get inexpensive, small, hand-siphons that will be able to pull the fluid out of the sump. They are pretty much the same thing as the top of a jug of hand-cleaner. It will take a lot of pumping.

I'd figure out a way to drain it out the bottom.

Quickest is to take the plug out but also this makes a mess. I have a Snapon YA745 Suction Gun ($16) & I would suugest that you could add a longer piece of hose & wiggle it down thru the fill hole at the rockshaft. This would be more accurate as well because you could control how much you take out better. Pop over if you want, I'll loan it to ya !!

Tom, can you just unscrew the sightglass fitting to drain some fluid? It would still be a little messy, but at least you wouldn't have to worry about dumping all the fluid if you dropped it.

I don't know but will check it out. If it doesn't work, I think I have a small crank siphon pump somewhere and will try and remove some out the fill. Anything to prevent removing the drain plug.

It is 20 degrees outside, snowy, foggy and cold but I still am going outside to work and play on my new JD green. Gotta love it.

You might try drawing it out with a long piece of clear plastic tubing from the hardware store in your mouth. I say clear because that way you can watch the fluid and stop sucking before it gets too close to your mouth!

Tom4310,
I've heard your story before and learned from my mechanic friends that the easiest solution is to re-drain the system. I would buy two 5gal buckets and 1 lid at Home Depot or similar outlet. Drain into the buckets. Refill correctly and store the left over for re-use later in the bucket with the lid. If you use the tractor with an overfilled tranny, you run the risk off damaging seals due to excess pressure in the unit.

Hello,

I seem to overfill my Kubota often. I always drain the extra through one of the axle drain bolts that are smaller. Just unscrew very slow and hold the bolt up to the hole so you won't drop it.:p
