4300 VS 3010, UP IN THE AIR

OK...I WAS ALL SET TO BUY THE 4300...ONE WAS ON ORDER FROM THE FACTORY...BUT I HAD NOT SEEN ONE WITH TURF TIRES...AS I POSTED ON THE DEERE SITE, I SAW ONE WITH TURFS AND REALIZED THAT GETTING A SET OF GOOD CHAINS ON WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE..SO I PUT THE 4300 ON HOLD AND AM BACK AM GOING TO LOOK AT THE 3010 TOMORROW WITH TURFS...THE KUBOTA DEALER TELLS ME THERE IS PLENTY OF CLEARANCE TO GET CHAINS ON ....???
HE WILL PRICE THE TRACTOR A COUPLE HUNDRED LESS THAN THE 4300 FOR A SIMILAR PACKAGE WITH THE LOADER....HE HAS 481 LOADER IN STOCK BUT SAID HE WOULD GET A 482 IF I WANTED...HE SAID HE THOUGHT THAT THE 481 WHICH ATTACHES AT 4 POINTS WITH PINS WAS A BETTER DESIGN THAN THE NEWER 482 WHICH THEY WENT TO MAINLY TO COMPETE WITH DEERE...ANY THOUGHTS...
I LIVE IN NH AND HAVE FOUND CHAINS TO BE HELPFUL IN THE WINTER ON PACKED SNOW..I ALSO WANT GET INTO THE WOODS WITH THE TRACTOR FOR SOME LOGGING...THE 3010 LOOKS LIKE IT HAS ALOT MORE GROUND CLEARANCE...???

I also live in NH and gave a lot of thought to what kind of tires to get. Settled on loaded industrials which seemed to give the best of both worlds. I need to travel across and work from finished lawn but also need to get into woods which is very rocky and stumpy. Regarding the FEL, I'm pretty certain that the JD loader cannot both lift and curl at the same time but the 481/482 can. What this means is that you could raise the bucket AND keep it level at the same time. With the JD you can do one or the other, but not both at the same time. That's my understanding of the difference on the FEL, speak up anyone if you hear different. I also have a 3010. David

I regularly lift and curl or lift and dump with the 430 loader on my 4300.

All generalizations are false.

Remi -- I log with my L3010 in northern Vermont and am wondering why you're leaning toward turfs for that application..? Light weight, few plys, less traction. There must be some offsetting positives if you intend to go there.

I own a 4300 with a 430 loader and I can curl and raise the bucket at the same time..The joystick control will let you operate 2 functions at once.

I think your dealer was telling you that John Deere's don't use the same valve system as Kubota. Kubota has a regenerative valve with a series circuit which allows for much quicker reaction while doing two operations at once. To simplify the explanation... instead of the hydraulic fluids dumping back into the whole system, they can be diverted to dump back into individual cylinders on the Kubota's. When I saw the two loaders working side by side doing the same functions at the same time, it amazed me at the difference in speed. Speed was almost exactly the same if "just going up" or "just dumping"... but when you wanted to "lift and dump" or "lower and roll", the Kubota loader continues to work at top speed while the JD slowed to almost twice the time. If you do a lot of loader work, this makes a huge difference over time.

David, I don't know about the models you've mentioned, but some loaders do work that way. On my B2710 with an LA401 loader, you can do any two functions simultaneously with the joystick except lift and curl.

You can lift and roll at the same time with your LA401... that "X" you see in the lift and roll position decal reminds you that you will have reduced power. Reason being that those that are not familiar with Kubota - and who are used to running other loaders - could lift the rear wheels up and find themselves in a precarious situation quickly. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif Safety issue on Kubota's part. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Matt, I guess I should have gone into more detail. At least theoretically and according to the manual, you're right. But as a practical matter, I've experimented with it, and it will not do both simultaneously. If you pull the lever down and left to the "X" position, it will do the one with the least resistance, and when it reaches the limits of its travel with that one, then it will do the other. I suppose if you put exactly the right amount of load in the bucket so that exactly an equal amount of force was needed for both lift and curl cylinders, then it would do them simultaneously.
