I am in need of a 42 inch box blade. I've searched and sifted through TBN posts and have come up with the following manufacturers:
Land Pride
King Kutter
and - maybe - Gannon (I can't find anything on this, other than that Gannon is supposed to have info somewhere on the Woods site - can't find that, either).

Is anyone aware of any others available? Any info appreciated.

Why do I need a 42 incher? Because it will fit in my FEL bucket.
Why does it need to fit in the bucket? So I can hoist it into my pickup bed.
Why does it need to go in the pickup bed? Uh, long story....

Mount some hooks on top of your bucket, get some short straps or chains and lift your 48" box blade with your 48" bucket.

Welcome to TBN :D! I suggest you fill out your profile. You might be able to use a wider BB and not limit yourself to your bucket size. Jay :)

How about cutting down a 48" to a 42"? Maybe that could work out for you, if you have to use a 42".

Thanks - all good ideas.

The other main reason why I am looking for the 42 inch size is based on a number of the postings I've seen here. My tractor is a 15hp Kubota BX1500, and owners of the 18hp and 22hp BX models have been advised not to go larger than 48 inches. I would like be able to use a 48" blade - they are much more common - but I wonder if the BX1500 has enough oomph for it.

I also realize that the 42" blade will be narrower than my wheel track; but for my purposes (grading around a new foundation), I'm fine with doing a little touchup with the iron rake.

If you cut down a 48" you could cut it on one side, covering at least one wheel and allowing you to get right up to the foundation on one side. I would think that would be more useful than a standard 42".

The ability of your tractor to use a 48" vs a 42" depends on what you are going to do with it and what kind of soil that you have. Your problem will be that you will run out of traction before you run out of power. Traction is more of a limitation than power and is associated more with the weight of the machine, AWD, and tire combinaiton. It is my opinion that you could use a 48" and get by with a medium duty instead of a super heavy duty box [read less expensive].

Hi,
I've got a BX1500 and a land pride 48" box blade. When I first got it I thought, I sure hope this little tractor can lift this hunk of steel. Well it has no problem lifting it. At first I was thinking I would have liked a 42" since it was a little smaller, but I can tell you after using this box blade a bunch I would not trade it for a smaller one. It was a kind of a challenge getting it out of the pick up bed, but I put a couple of 2X6's and just slide it to the ground. Once on the ground I hooked it to the 3 point hitch and I was off.

I would highly recommend building a dolly for it (piece of 3/4" plywood on a 2X4 frame with 4 wheels). It really makes hooking it to the tractor a piece of cake and you can roll it where you want it stored.

My suggestion is to get the 48" box blade. I think with a 42" you would have all kinds of problems trying to grade or getting close to anything. I am certainly no expert, but I think you would always have trouble getting the wheels on the same plane.

A couple of summers ago I put in a drive way using pavers and I need to get real close to the side of the garage. I was able to get with in a couple of inches of the garage. I moved about 10 yards of dirt on that project.

As far as the bx1500 not having enough hp, I would say it all depends on what type of dirt you have and how much you try to move in one shot. I have had the entire box filled, but was only taking off an inch at a time. You can stop it by digging in too deep, but I am sure you would have the same problem with a 42" box.

Hope this helps.
Rick
