I have a 4115 with the 46 Backhoe and the "power-beyond" port to operate the backhoe. I am thinking of getting a 3PH Log Splitter that operates off the Tractor hydraulics. My problem is: If I use the backhoe hydraulic port to power the Log Splitter (or the backhoe), I loose the up/down function of the 3PT hitch. What do I need to power up the Log splitter and keep the 3 Point hitch working? Thank You!

Here is a trick that Jeepinator taught me. We both have tractor powered splitters and 3720 tractors, with the same PB v.s. rock shaft issue as your 4115.
Our splitters have tilting beds so you can tilt the splitter over for vertical operation.

The trick is to mount the splitter but not plug it in. Either move it to your site, set it down and then plug it in or do the following. Set the height of the 3pt so that when the splitter is tilted to vertical it just touches the ground. Then hook it up. Tilt the splitter back to horizontal and then drive to your site. Tilt the splitter back to vertical and start splitting.

The problem is it only works when you are level and if there is enough clearance under the splitter frame to get where you want to go.

I really wish JD had put more thought into the newer power beyond systems. They should have used some other method to secure the rock shafts once the hoe is mounted. My old 855 had a simple bar and that worked fine. It is if JD just forgot about tractor powered splitters or anything else that might use PB besides a back hoe. Argh!

I don't have one yet, but from what I have read the following should work.
If someone has tried it and it won't work please let us know, so others don't waste time.

The splitter I was looking at has an open center control, which passes hydraluic fluid between the input and output ports when the spool is in neutral. I was told the the rock shaft control was the same and that the fluid was constantly circulating. So I was going to plumb the splitter with the same hose couplings so I could series connect the splitter between the power beyond and the rock shaft control. If the above is true then the 3 point will still function as designed.

Probably the same idea, but my thought was to put a Y-connector on the Power Beyond pressure line, run one leg w/quick connector to the log splitter, and the other leg w/quick connector back to the Power Beyond connector. Everything should work at the same time.

It should work, but you will be creating some extra heat going thru
the rockshaft, instead of dumping directly back into the sump like
the current power beyond does.

Dutch455, Don't they make a remote for this tractor?

The only rear hydraulic kit they make is the rear outlets,
which just allows you to use your joystick for rear functions, in place of the loader functions.

I personally hate the thought of putting extra hours on my machine doing something like log splitting (or PTO generators) when in my opinion stand alone units are better and most time less expensive -

Is this something that only occurred certain yrs/models ?
(just curious, my 790 don't do that)

yes, just the newer and higher end models.

But as it turns out you can avoid this by just inserting the splitter directly into the rockshaft loop and not using the third port. The third port is a direct return to the sump. It bypasses the rockshaft valves and therefore provides less return resistance. It is a plus for backhoes, but not necessary for the log splitter.

Ducati996 (nice bike by the way. I used to have a 900ss way back) Your comment about not using your tractor as a mobile engine is very debatable. I have a shed that used to have about 20 small engines. Each year I would have to service all those, many of which were B&S pieces of junk. I have replaced some of those with PTO driven implements and am thrilled with the substitutions. The tractor motor is much easier to maintain and will outlast any of those little gremlins.

I got my 2355 for the sole purpose of running a BearCat 72854 chipper. I got the tractor and the chipper for about the same price as the self powered tow behind model. The 2355 has 35 more PTO hp than the self powered model and I now use it for other purposes. A much better solution.
