I've recently installed a new water pump, thermostat, radiator reconditioned & new water hoses. I did all this myself - no problems. The p'steering unit under the wheel was leaking & the seals on the rams were leaking badly. I decided to dismantle the assembly & take it into the dealer. Sometimes it's nice to get some help if time is short. Anyway, this is where my nightmare began. Dealer kept the assemblies for 5 to 6 weeks. I got them back, and spent a good day reinstalling the gear. I turned on the ignition, turned the wheel & hydraulic fluid flowed from the p'steering box and both the rams. The dealer was reasonable & sent out the mobile tech to help me take all the gear out again. The problem: the wrong seals were put in the rams & the workshop tech 'stretched' the nylon seal/s that go in the p's box
(apparently, the originals were rubber, but Ford NH have switched to nylon as they last longer, but are tricker to install). Two weeks later the mobile tech turns up again & we put the parts back in. No leaks. Good. However, I have tractor out in the paddock & I can't get it into 3rd & 4th gear. I phone the dealer. He claims the screw adjustments at the end of the steering rods need adjusting. "Fiddle with it yourself. If it's not this the cover will need to come off the gear housing and the selectors will need adjusting" is the advice. No luck. Another mobile tech from the dealer comes out & discovers that the 1st mobile tech had incorrectly installed the top of the steering assembly that holds the wheel in place. By the way, this dealer charges
$121/hr for labor. They seemed unaware that having my machine out of action for 2 months was causing me grief. They were sensible enough not to embarrass themselves by trying to charge me for the recalls. I think I'll look around for another mechanic.
