Anyone had the rear axle cover off of a 4110,4115? Mine developed a slow leak; trying to determine if they used a gasket or just sealant. Tech manual says gasket, JD Parts doesn't list one. I didn't see a gasket "lip" extending from the two halves, just sealant that was squished out.
Red tape is area where leak developed @ 60 hrs.

My 4110 had a similar leak while still under warranty, The Dealer said there was no gasket, just a RTV type sealer. When they fixed it, they used a white colored sealant. Might want to check with JD to see what they recommend to use...

Thanks for the confirmation. BTW, dealer said he’d be happy to fix under warranty. Only issue is the 70 mile R/T transportation. I’m still sitting on the fence on the 16 foot trailer; dealer charge is $60 for p.u. and delivery.
Most difficult part of the home fix will be deciding what to use as a case sealant (Three Bond 1211 maybe) and what to use to catch and re-use my recently changed (50 hr) hyd fluid. I’m thinking about a new concrete mixing pan---big, low to the ground, black plastic type. (did I say cheap, too?)
Anyone have better ideas on a suitable catch pan that’ll hold 4 gallons and fit under the tractor?

Man you guys are starting to worry me. I got rid of the 2210 because of the reaccuring tip link plate leak. I did a search on the JD 4110 and 4115 and didn't come up with any problems like this. Now it looks like it's pretty common. I will pretty much always have something on the 3 point (balast weight, ground engaging equipment, etc.) and my land is still pretty rough so things jar around some. I wonder what brings this leak on. Just poor initial seal to begin with? Or is it something more like the top link plate on the 2210.

They won't pick up a warranty repair at no charge? I would think they would charge that to JD, not you--might be worth checking /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I do not think you should worry, There a lots of 41XX owners around here. I have never read about anyone else having this problem.

Mine was a very minute seepage, not a leak. I only had it addressed because the warranty was about to expire and I had it in for the leaking battery syndrome.

No seepage since fixed, I just think it was bad seal from the factory.

Most quality automotive type silicone sealers will work if the surfaces are completely dry and oil free. There cannot be any oil touching these type sealers until they are totally set and dry. This has been a problem for many years with silicone gasket compounds. There a a couple that I know of that are supposed to work even with oil on the surface. Chrysler uses a silicone type sealer on many transmission pans now. It's only available from a Chrysler dealer. It is gray in color. Just ask for the sealer used on transmission pans that don't use a gasket. I've used this sealer with success. As you probably know, it is impossible to keep the transmission fluid off the surface when reinstalling the pan. The other sealer I'm familiar with is from Honda. I have purchased it from a Honda dealer.

No problems with the 4110 here, and my 2210 was one of the first toplink plate leakers. The issue with the toplink on the earlier 2210s was due in part to a rockshaft ram making contact with that plate. I don't think there's any real design issues associated with the 4110 thing. More like an assembly or assembly materials issue. These two posts are the first I have read...(not that that means there haven't been others)

TSC sells a line of rubber tubs for feeding grain to horses, low and sturdy, the number of gallons is on the manufacturer's label. Have one for changing my truck or tractor engine oil. Also one that will take entire hyd. fluid drain on my tractor.
