I'm currently in the market for a new tractor with FEL, rear blade and 60" MMM. Trying to decide between the 4110, B7500 or wait for the B7800. I drove the 4110 the other day and liked the feel. Had a couple of conecerns:

1) The dealer didn't think there was any way of pinning the MMM in the raised position so that a rear blade could be used. Is this true? I would like to be able to use the blade without removing the mower.

2) The glow plugs cycle for three seconds and automaticlly shut off. Is there any problem with cold weather starting? I had a JD 430 with a 20HP Yanmar that didn't want to start when it was cold.

3) Has anyone experienced problems with the electric PTO? I've had problems in the past with my 430. A buddy just bought a 4310 and he has sheared pins on his brush hog when he engaged the PTO above idle.

Thanks for any advice.

I have a 4110 and we have had weather in the low teens and I haven't had a problem with it not wanting to start.

I do not know anything about the 4110 but I'm sure it is a nice tractor, I own a B-7500 and have been very pleased. I think the 4110 and the B-7500 are very compatable the B-7800 is a 30 HP machine, and thus you will not be coparing apples to apples.

I have a JD4110 and they do make a kit for keeping the MMM up while using the three point. There was a post a while back about it - http://www.tractorbynet.com/cgi-bin...ber=129558&page=&view=&sb=&o=&vc=1#Post129558

As far as starting in cold weather, I have not had any trouble yet and it's been as cold as -6 and she still cranks over. Granted, it doesn't start as smooth as it does when it's 70 outside, but then neither do I.

Regarding the electric PTO and the shear pins, most tractor and implement manuals tell you never to engage the PTO above idle. Your buddy need to think about the forces at work when engaging a 540 RPM PTO to a 5 or 6 foot device attempting to swing two very larg flat bars of steel from a dead stop. This doesn't take into account that the mower could be starting out already in the thick grass or brush. I have never had any trouble with my electric PTO.

Craig,
I havent had any problems with my 4110. It dosen't get very cold here in southeast Texas so I can help you there. As far as the electric PTO, no problems here at all. I do idle down to engage and I have done so in pretty thick grass and brush. Another feature I like is the brake. A couple of time I have hit something buried in the grass and all I do is hit the button to stop the cutter. Yes it's somewhat after the fact, but it does keep from doing additional damage. Depending on what you are planning to use your tractor for, I can't say anything bad about my 4110. Good luck

CraigTaliani,

I've had my 4110 since the end of October and love it.

You can get the pin-up kit for the MMM that allows you to raise and lower the 3pt hitch without moving the deck. I think it was 60-70 dollar option but my dealer threw it in.

We have had some very cold days here in Michigan (in the teens), no problems starting. I keep it in a unheated pole barn. I does not start as smoothly as it does in warm weather.

I have not had any problems with the PTO. I have only used it once to mow with. Everything about it seamed smooth when engaging/disengaging.

Good luck with decision.

CraigTaliani ,

I have had my 4110 since September and have had no problems with it. I also did the comparsion between the B7500 and 4110. After driving both I felt more comfortabel on the 4110. Things like the loader lever to me are in a better position. All personal preference. Both are fine machines. Got mine with the 410 loader and filled R4's. No problems with cold starting ..... I am in the process of installing a block heater for extra measure. See the post in Parts/Repairs

Good Luck !! And let us know the outcome ....

Mark
